Two new tours to little known parts of France by rail have been announced for 2009 by French Travel Service, the specialists in rail travel to France using TGV and Eurostar.
The Allier Gorges Tour after travelling across from the UK, you’ll set off from Clermont-Ferrand journeying south through the mountains of the Massif Central. The railway line is a remarkable feat of engineering in itself and offers the only way to see many views of the Allier Gorges as they aren’t accessible by car. Once arrived, there’s plenty of time to explore and even a gastronomic dinner at a local Michelin-starred restaurant is included in your holiday price.
The tour, which lasts six nights, includes two nights’ bed and breakfast accommodation and four nights’ half board accommodation in various hotels, including one with a swimming pool. The cost is £599 per person, including Eurostar to France, TGV and local rail journeys with the return TGV from Nimes, with Eurostar back to London.
The Basque Country Tour brings together three destinations rich in history and culinary delights – a combination that will please many! You’ll see Bayonne an ancient city renowned for its ham and chocolate, before heading to St Jean Pied de Port, a medieval town in the Pyrenees on the pilgrimage route to Compostella. The final stop is St Jean de Luz with it’s natural harbour and traditional Masque architecture full of Moorish influences, coupled with the best fish restaurants.
The price of £549 per person includes rail travel from London to Bayonne returning from St Jean de Luz, as well as local rail travel between centres. You will spend four nights in bed and breakfast accommodation and two nights’ in 2 or 3 star hotels, all centrally located.
Departures dates for both of these independent rail tours to France are flexible and you can easily extend your stays in any of the places you visit on the itinerary.
