Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondavels, Bourkes Luck Potholes, Kruger National Park Leaving Johannesburg we enter the land of the rising sun, Mpumalanga and view the breathtaking Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondavels and Bourkes Luck Potholes. Then its on to our private game reserve bordering Kruger for our first night. Next day we travel to the world renowned Kruger National Park where we enjoy morning and late afternoon game drives hoping to spot some of the diverse wildlife for which Kruger is famous. Day 3  4. Mozambique, Maputo Today we enter Mozambique, heading to its capital, Maputo for two nights in this once grandiose city where Afro and Portuguese cultures blend into one. The city exudes character and has great cuisine, markets, bars and nightlife here for you to explore. Other optional activities that you can pursue out of the city include a safari to a local elephant reserve, day trips to great beaches or island day trips to swim and snorkel in the Indian Ocean. Day 5. Swaziland, Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary We travel the short distance to the Kingdom of Swaziland, a small landlocked country wedged between Mozambique and South Africa on the slopes of the Drakensberg Mountains. We spend a night in Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary surrounded by antelope and zebra. Here you have the option of experiencing tribal dancing, singing and cuisine on one of our nights here. Day 6  7. KwaZulu-Natal, HluhluweImfolozi Game Reserve, Durban We enter the province of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa to overnight in the St Lucia region. The following day we take a morning game drive into Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, the oldest game reserve in South Africa famous for having the largest population of rhino in the world. We finally wind our way to the coast and the seaside playground of Durban where our tour ends. NB A reasonable level of fitness is required for hiking in the Drakensberg Mountains. Day 1  5. Durban, Mabandala, Mehloding Our first day in Durban is free to explore at leisure. Popular attractions include the colourful markets, the beach promenade and popular uShaka Marine World. At night, Durban has a great array of cuisine to choose from, with Indian food a local specialty. The following day we travel west towards the Drakensburg Mountains or Barrier of Spears. This 200km long mountain range is an acclaimed World Day 12  15. Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, Kosi Bay, Durban We enjoy canoeing across the waters of Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site home to a huge array of habitats, from mangroves and swamp forests to dunes and coastal woodland. At Kosi Bay we spend the day relaxing on the beach before returning to Durban where our tour ends. 52 SOUTH AFRICA - HBKN15 53 Experience the great outdoors and welcoming people of KwaZuluNatal. Cycle into the remote Mabandala and Mehloding Mountains, Hike in the rugged foothills of the Drakensberg and learn the secrets of traditional herbal and spiritual healing. Thrilling game viewing in the regions best parks finishes this perfect African Adventure! Heritage Site and features many hiking and biking trails linking local villages. We travel first to the village of Mabandala, where we stay for the next two nights. This is no tourist trap, nothing is staged and we shall get to know the local people and learn how rural South Africans live their daily lives. Next, heading into the mountains themselves, we spend a couple of days hiking and mountain biking in this beautiful preserve. Imposing ragged peaks and lush foothills offer plenty of variety for all abilities. Day 6  7. Njesuthi Weather permitting, we have the opportunity to climb the highest mountain in Africa south of Mt Kilimanjaro. Njesuthi stands at just over 3,400m and while not a technical climb, it is still a challenging hike. Alternatively we enjoy scenic hikes along the escarpment that afford breathtaking views over KwaZulu-Natal. Day 8  11. Zululand, Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve We travel down to the alluvial farmlands of Zululand to enjoy the warm Zulu hospitality and learn something of their traditions, including ancestral worship, formal social structure, marriage, the role of the traditional healer, witchcraft and superstitions. After this cultural insight, we go on safari in the oldest game reserve in South Africa, HluhluweImfolozi, comprised of two adjoining parks that offer a variety of landscapes and vegetation for a growing number of animals. The Big 5 can all be seen here, particularly rhino.
