In our opinion Alistair McLean
The first time I flew to Montreal it struck me that even at 35,000 ft the St Lawrence River looked enormous. For me, that sums up Quebec Province. It has two strikingly contrasting cities. Montreal is vibrant and modern while Quebec City oozes old world charm. To the north of them both is a vast, barely tamed wilderness. Past generations have tried to settle in these wilds but presumably they failed. If you look at a map you can see the names of settlements with the word abandoned' after them. It's tough up north!

Canada Quebec Province
From the sophistication of Montreal to the wilds of Mauricie, the Laurentian Mountains and Saguenay-Lac-St Jean, Quebec Province can't fail to impress. And, it's less than seven hours flying time on a direct flight from London.
Accommodation - our opinion
Montreal The majority of our Quebec holidays incorporate some free time to explore Montreal before flying home. It's a great city combining French joie de vivre and a modern style all of its own. With superb restaurants reflecting the Province's French heritage, miles and miles of underground shopping and a vibrant and diverse nightlife you will probably want to stay longer. The Gouverneur Hotel Montreal The Gouverneur Hotel is the base for all our holidays in Montreal. Located in the heart of the Latin Quarter and just a few blocks from the old town, the Gouveurneur is one of the city's best four star hotels. We use the spacious standard rooms, all of which are en suite and boast a host of facilities. Additional amenities at the hotel include an indoor pool, a sauna, a fitness room, a restaurant and a bistro bar serving international cuisine. Mauricie Vive la difference! Our winter adventures take place in La Mauricie' a giant territory of some 39,748km2 in size. It is a beautiful and remote country and yet its most southerly areas start no more than an hour and a half's drive away from either Montreal or Quebec City. Auberge le Montagnard The Auberge le Montagnard is the base for our holidays in Mauricie. The Auberge is a beautifully constructed wooden lodge built in traditional Quebecoise style. With log fires, loads of old world character and excellent evening menus, this is the place to wind down after a day in the snowy wilderness. You can't help but feel at home here at Auberge le Montagnard. Wilderness Accommodation Our overnight and longer safaris use a range of accommodation from log cabins with only very basic facilities, to rustic camps and small lodges. The adventurous nature of these trips means that your route may change in response to local conditions. Subject to your guides' discretion, we may use alternatives to those originally planned.
