SUOMU
SUOMU IN FINNISH LAPLAND
Suomu nestles peacefully amongst silent snow covered winter fells. This tiny ski resort is a popular weekend retreat for Finns seeking some genuine peace, quiet and seclusion. You will stay in the aptly named Arctic Circle hotel (the Arctic Circle runs through the centre of the resort) just a short distance from the ski slopes. Many of the activities start from the hotel's back door. This is tourism on a minor scale, undeveloped and uncommercialised - probably not the place to visit in search of a wild nightlife! HOLIDAY CHOICES
We offer a fantastic activity week in Suomu designed to show off the best that the area has to offer. You will participate in activities from snowshoeing to snowmobiling and can even include an overnight husky safari in your itinerary.
SUOMU WILDERNESS ADVENTURE 7 NIGHTS
saunas available for use by all guests. Quite rightly, the Finns believe this is the perfect way to unwind after a day of winter adventure sports in sub-zero temperatures. The hotel has 30 comfortable en-suite bedrooms with fantastic power steam showers. All of the rooms are equipped with a plasma TV, internet connection and minibar. The Scandinavian style restaurant offers good food and a pleasant atmosphere. It serves typical Finnish style fare including delicious salmon dishes along with specialities from around the world. The restaurant can cater for any special diets. A major atttraction of the hotel is that it is just a short walk to the ski slopes where a selection of blue, red and black slopes provides some great entertainment for skiers of all abilities. Ski equipment is available free of charge throughout your stay in Suomu.
ACCOMMODATION - OUR OPINION
THE ARCTIC CIRCLE HOTEL The Arctic Circle Hotel is a newly built and modern hotel situated on the outskirts of Suomu. There is a large restaurant, bar and lobby area ideal for post activity drinks. Naturally, this being Finland, there are two traditional
WILDERNESS CABINS As part of our Suomu Wilderness Adventure you can choose to participate in an overnight dog sled safari. During the safari you will leave your hotel and its modern facilities behind and stay in a wilderness cabin. These cabins are heated by log fires and generally lit by candles. Accommodation is shared and toilet facilities are in separate outside cabins. Generally, these remote lodgings have a wood heated sauna so you can relax in some style before dinner. The great advantage of these remote cabins is their location, far away from any human habitation and light pollution. There are few better places to witness a full-blown display of the Aurora Borealis.
