You ascend Table Mountain by cable car (weather permitting). At 1067 metres, enjoy amazing views of the city, Robben Island and the Cape Peninsula. You then drive through the city and see such sights as the Museum, City Hall, the `Old Castle' and the historic Malay quarter.
Experience a taste of Africa's wildlife with a game drive in this reserve, just a 30 minute drive from East London.
MOZAMBIQUE
MAPUTO
Maputo (formerly Lourenco Marques) is located near the very southern tip of the country. Renowned for its colonial Portuguese architecture, it has wide avenues, colourful markets, cafés, bars and restaurants. Maputo's most important landmark is its old Portuguese fortress which was built in 1787. Other places of interest are the impressive Central Railway Station (designed by Eiffel who gave us the famous tower), and the Botanical Gardens.
Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and Constantia wine farm (half day) - £33 (approx.)
The Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens has 528 hectares of indigenous flora and is spectacularly situated on the slopes of Table Mountain. You continue to Constantia and visit the Groot Constantia estate for some wine tasting.
Winelands Tour (full day) - £62

Admire the beauty of the countryside as you drive to the historic university town of Stellenbosch, the centre of the Winelands and the oldest town of the region. You continue to the picturesque town of Franschhoek and after lunch, you visit Paarl, famed for its red wines. There will be time to sample the excellent wines of the region.

You travel along the Atlantic coastline to the fishing village of Hout Bay and then cross the mountain via Chapman's Peak Drive to the worldrenowned Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve at Cape Point. You continue along the False Bay coastline to Simonstown where the South African Navy headquarters are located. You also visit the penguin colony at Boulders Beach. Lunch is included.
You will stop at the Fortress, central market, the Central Railway Station and the Nucleu do Arte (artists' studio). A stop will also be made at the National History Museum (entrance fee not included approx US$2 per person). You will also drive past the Botanical Gardens, the House of Steel (also designed by Eiffel) and the old torture prison.

East London is South Africa's only river port and lies in a sheltered harbour at the mouth of the Buffalo River. The East London Museum
Some excursions involve walking over rough terrain, climbing in and out of high vehicles or arriving by speed boat or motorised dhow. Some excursions also operate in choppy sea conditions.
