beaches
This island is renowned for its simply splendid shores from the pristine sands of the South around Jandia to the sheltered horseshoe beach of Costa Caleta, the beautiful bay of (aptly named) Costa Calma, and the seven-mile sands and superb watersports at lively Corralejo.
nightlife
The mood of this island is relaxed rather than frenetic so, while party animals would be hard pushed to find the feast of clubs they need, families and couples are well catered for with ample bars and restaurants in each of the resorts, and regular entertainment in many of the hotels.
places to see
Camels are purpose built for the sandy landscape of Fuerteventura, and there are several camel safaris to tempt you to explore. Enjoy the charm and history of the capital, Puerto del Rosario, the Norman castle of Rico Roque, and the murals of the Church of Santa Maria in the ancient capital Betancuria.
getting around
Local bus services run the length of the East coast, from Puerto del Rosario to Corralejo in the North, and South through Costa Caleta and Costa Calma to Jandia. To see the unspoilt and undiscovered interior, or to explore the Western shore, car hire would be an advantage.
Corralejo
A lively resort set behind a small sandy cove. Is it for me? Home to a good variety of restaurants and lively bars and a blissful seven mile stretch of sand on the edge of town. Active holidaymakers of all ages will appreciate this resort. Facilities A variety of shops, restaurants and bars can be found in Corralejo towns network of streets. Must see Catch the ferry to the pretty Island of Lobo. Approx. 45 minutes from the airport. See pages 104 - 108.

eating out
There are lots of tapas bars around the island where you can snack on olives and tomatoes or make a meal of it with tasters of seafood and fresh or fried vegetables. Try a refreshing watercress soup and dishes made with locally grown papaya or avocado and enjoy the excellent value Spanish wines and liqueurs.
car hire
Avis offers total flexibility and a wide variety of cars. Enjoy the freedom to explore, so you can go wherever and whenever you want this holiday.
shopping
Every resort has a healthy selection of souvenir shops, but your best bets for the widest choice are the busiest resort, Corralejo, and the islands capital, Puerto del Rosario. Corralejo is famous for its straw hats still woven in the old traditional way. Pottery, cane and reed work also feature in local crafts.
