beaches
The long and broad beach of Matagorda is a great base for sunworshippers while Puerto del Carmen backs its sweep of sand with bars and eateries. Theres a choice of beaches and coves at family oriented Costa Teguise, as well as at peaceful Playa Blanca.
nightlife
Puerto del Carmen is the party paradise with numerous clubs and bars geared to the young and livelies. Elsewhere, nightlife is much more leisurely with people-watching pavement cafes and the kind of restaurants where you can spin-out dinner to last all evening.
places to see
A trip up Timanfaya (Fire Mountain) is absolutely unmissable. Other sights worth a visit include the 3.5 mile volcanic cave of Los Verdes and nearby Jameo del Agua lagoon, shops and the busy port atmosphere of the islands capital, Arrecife, and the old capital, Teguise, with its castle, convent and churches.
getting around
Local bus services run from Arrecife South through the resorts to Playa Blanca and North to Costa Teguise. Buses are relatively punctual but can be pretty crowded especially in high season. For exploration at your own pace, hire a car for a few days.
