truly outstanding wines at Neri before continuing for a private invitation for lunch at the beautiful castle of Argiano. The second part of the tour covers Chianti and we stay on the Tuscan wine estate of Borgo San Felice, in their Relais & Châteaux hotel. Over the next few days we see how Chianti has transformed its wine industry especially following the Chianti 2000 project. The region now concentrates on exploring the qualities of their native grape varieties. In a sea change of fashion it is now viewed as old fashioned to consider putting Cabernet Sauvignon anywhere near your prestige Chianti. Jane Hunt will host a tasting of a range of top estates such as Castello di Ama, Fonterutoli, Querciabella and Brolio. We continue with our super star visits followed by Fontodi who join us for lunch. This evening is spent in Siena where you are welcome to join the team for dinner. Next morning we visit Isole & Olena and lunch at at the magni½cent premises of Castello di Volpaia. Our ½nal dinner will be at Felsina di Berardegena. Well have a vertical tasting of their Reserva Rancia and Fontalloro. On the last day we visit the leading estate in Chianti Ru½na, and indeed one of the top Tuscan estates, Selvapiana. Tuscan Wine Academy
Monday 10 - Saturday 15 November
This, our second Tuscan Wine Academy, focuses on the greatest wine estates in Chianti, Montalcino and Bolgheri. Here we will see the wonderful blend of respect for tradition and determination to achieve sublime quality which makes this one of the most exciting wine regions of the world. We start with a comprehensive tour of the Bolgheri wine region taking in most of the leading vineyards here. Relatively recent by Tuscan standards, interest in Bolgheri began in the 1960s when Marchese Incisa della Rochetta married into a family with land in the region. Working with the now famous oenologist Giacomo Tachis, he planted a vineyard at Tenuta San Guido. They followed techniques more usual in Bordeaux than Italy and created Sassicaia and with it, the concept of the cult Italian wine. For many years, this estate was the only interest here. However in the last few years there has been a ¾urry of investment from wine makers including the Antinoris of Florence and Gaja of Piemonte. Our ½rst few visits include the original cult Super Tuscans. Our exploration of the Bolgheri region begins in great style with lunch at Tenuta dellOrnellaia. We have the rare opportunity to visit Tenuta San Guido where world renowned Sassicaiais made. We continue for lunch at the Antinori owned Guado Al Tasso. Next we head to the DOC of Montalcino to taste the
