Following the recent hugely enjoyable TV series with Rick Stein we couldnt resist featuring these ½ve wonderful peniche-hotels operated by the up-market Orient Express group. These ½ve elegant vessels slip serenely through some of Frances most beautiful and unspoilt countryside. Why not get together a party of friends or family and the crew and chauffeur are at your disposal to design a daily itinerary to suit your partys personal interests. The chauffeur-guide will set up visits and tastings at wine estates, take you to the local markets, museums, art galleries and best shops along the route. Or you can build up some spare capacity for the next meal by following the canal tow-path on one of the on board bicycles. The crew to client ratio is high and the cordon-bleu chef goes ashore each day to select fresh produce for the days menus. Breakfast and lunch are tasty, informal buffet spreads, with dinner a ½ve course gourmet meal all enjoyed at a relaxed pace. Each peniche-hotel follows a slightly different route each week and we will send you a comprehensive information pack with dates, routes and further details on the barges. We strongly suggest booking early if you are tied to a particular date departures are on a Sunday from 1 April to 21 October. Individuals travelling in couples can also book onto Napoleon and Hirondelle on any available date that has not been taken up for a private charter and you would then be travelling with other couples from around the world.
THE ALOUETTE
The Alouette has been tototally refurbished for 2008. She cruises the tree-lined Canal du Midi between Carcassonne and Beziers passing through the countryside and vineyards of the LanguedocRoussillon and the land of the Cathars with their fascinating castles. Visits include Toulouse, Castelnaudry and the medieval city of Carcassonne. There are two spacious double /twin cabins, with en-suite shower rooms.
