Alighieri, descendant of the Italian poet Dante Alighieri; the Amarone is a classic power-house and to ½nish there is the lush, sweet Reccioto. We also visit quality-extremists Ca La Bionda. They dont believe in Ripassa, the intermediate style of Valpolicella, preferring wines either entirely from dried grapes or entirely from fresh grapes.
Opera & Wine Tours
The August tour includes lunch at Serego-Alighieri. We also visit the noble estate of Guerrieri-Rizzardi, (set in one of the last classic Italian gardens). The wines are a good Bardolino, a ½ne Soave, a ½ne Valpolicella-Amarone and a very good Cab blend. We have lunch in the delightful setting of their gardens. We also taste the wines of winning Lugana estate Ca dei Frati over lunch. Our wine visits depart mid to late morning, so, after your night at the opera, there is no rushing for early starts. On the last day we depart mid morning for an early lunch in the Soave Enoteca where we will taste a wide range of Soave wines.

Verona Opera & Wine
Thursday 24 - Sunday 27 July & Friday 1 - Monday 4 August
On this superb opera and wine tour we are based in the centre of the lovely city of Verona with its magni½cent Roman Arena, 14th century Castelvecchio, Giusti Gardens, Renaissance buildings and the balcony claimed to feature in Romeo & Juliet. There is time to enjoy Veronas Roman and Medieval sites, elegant shops, wine bars and restaurants. The atmosphere in the arena is an unforgettable experience, and this year the operas are Verdis Aïda, that many say is the classic to see here and Nabucco which also suits a grand stage. The rest of the programme will also be very popular with Bizets Carmen, Puccinis Tosca and Verdis Rigoletto. We include a numbered step to the Opera of your choice and can arrange further tickets to attend performances on the other two evenings. Happily, after the evenings performance your hotel is within walking distance of the Arena, so there is no ½ghting to ½nd your coach at 1a.m. for a lengthy journey home that you would ½nd on a less exclusive holiday. Verona is surrounded by vineyards. Soave is to the east and to the west we have Valpolicella Classico, Bardolino and Lugana. The greatest wines are those made from dried grapes in Valpolicella, the heady dry Amarone and the sweet Reccioto. On the July tour we head west to the lake to the welcoming estate of Zenato, who make attractive whites from Lugana and a stunning range from Valpolicella. We have a superb tasting and lunch at Valpolicella estate of Count SeregoVerona
Extend your stay with two nights in Venice or on the lake.
