Bulgaria is one of Europes most naturally beautiful and diverse destinations.
What to Do & See
Bulgarias towering mountains, deep valleys and abundant flora and fauna make it a nature- and sport-lovers paradise, with fabulous opportunities for walking, hiking and mountain biking. Studded with mountain villages, medieval monasteries, fragrant rose fields and plunging waterfalls, the hinterland presents explorers with a myriad of sights and experiences. Bulgaria is also renowned for its rich cultural heritage, which is displayed in its seasonal festivals, ritual folk dances and its brightly coloured, decorative national costume. Throughout the summer, regular cultural and folk festivals are held in different parts of the country. During your stay in the resorts we have selected for you, you will be able to experience more of this yourself with a range of excursions we can provide bookable locally. Money
Bulgarias currency is the Lev, with about 2.44 Lev to £1.00 sterling (April 2008). You can exchange money at airports, banks, exchange bureaux and hotels. Travellers cheques carry a higher commission. Credit cards are not widely accepted, and Scottish notes are not accepted at all. Cash dispensing machines are available in most of our resorts, in proximity to bank offices, resort promenades and bigger hotels.

Food & Drink
Bulgarian food is a blend of Slavonic, Greek and Turkish cuisine, and includes specialities such as Shopska salad, (tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and sheeps cheese), and tarator (chilled cucumber, walnut and yoghurt soup). Other musts include kebapcheta (kebabs) kavarma, (individual casseroles of pork or veal with onions and mushrooms), shishkebab, moussaka and Bulgarian yoghurt. Wash your meals down with the local, fruity wines or a cold beer they are very cheap compared to home.
Shopping
The Black Sea resorts are great for cheap designer clothes, CDs and handbags. Traditional handicrafts such as handmade pottery, jewellry, lace and knitwear can be found in local markets and shops. A bigger diversity may be available in the nearby large towns.
Climate
Bulgaria has average temperatures of 27o C in the summer and basks in over 300 hours of sunshine during the high season.
