An unforgettable journey through the seemingly impenetrable wall of the Southern Alps on the TranzAlpine railway to Arthur's Pass, where you'll continue by coach to Hokitika and the Greenstone Jade Factory before reaching the awesome Franz Josef Glacier.
After a cruise across Lake Te Anau and a visit to the `Glowworm Caves' you'll drive right across the heel of New Zealand for a night in its oldest city. Instead of a hotel you could spend the night with a local family (home stays need to be prebooked). Day 16

Travelling via the charming lakeside town of Wanaka, the tour arrives in Queenstown in time for a cruise on TSS Earnslaw. Dining at Walter Peak Station, Lombardis or the Skyline restaurant is included. In the morning you'll drive to Glenorchy for a hearty `stockman's breakfast' before boarding a jet boat for an unforgettable trip on the Dart River. In the afternoon you can choose from a guided tour of Skippers Canyon, a boutique winery tour, a garden tour, a Lord Of The Rings safari, a Shotover Jet boat ride, a hike in Mount Aspiring National Park along the Routeburn Valley or, yup, you've guessed it, a bungee jump in the town where the craze all began.
After a guided tour of Larnach castle, you'll head north, stopping at the famous Moeraki Boulders before reaching Twizel.
Note that in some cases where dinner is
included it is offered at a restaurant other than hotel dining rooms.
Days 17 and 18

Bay of Islands
A super-scenic day, with time to inspect Mount Cook and the picturesque glacierfed lake of Tekapo. The farewell dinner in Christchurch begins with a historic tram ride, with drinks and canapés, then continues with dinner at a local restaurant. On the day you head for home there's time for a final jaunt, either a bicycle tour, a punt on the Avon river, a garden visit or a ride on the city loop tram.
