Gain a fantastic insight into the tradition, turmoil and controversy that has characterised China throughout history and see the contrasts as you stroll through the two vibrant cities of Beijing and Xi'an. Travel back in time wandering through the Forbidden City and along the Great Wall, and then marvel at the 2,000 year old Terracotta Warriors - one of the most amazing archaeological discoveries of our time.
Day 1-2, Beijing - Set your eyes on the vibrancy and sophistication of modern China in Beijing. Take in the Summer Palace, the Hutongs in the Old Town and some of the best acrobats in the world. You'll also have the chance to visit the infamous Great Wall of China and walk along it from Jinshanling to Simatai, taking in spectacular views all the way. This is a less touristy part of the wall and is not to be missed! Day 3-7, Beijing - Xi'an - Beijing - From Beijing we travel by overnight sleeper train to Xi'an, the home of the vast army of Terracotta Warriors. Meet the friendly locals along the way and enjoy the sights in this ancient capital. Xi'an is also famous for its evening food markets and is a great place to try some of the local cuisine. Train rides are a fantastic way to learn Mandarin phrases or try the local paint stripper wine `Baiju'. Day 8, Depart Beijing - Beijing is the perfect place to spend the afternoon simply wandering around or bargaining and haggling away at the silk market. Don't forget to try some of Beijing's popular Peking duck on your last day on tour!
