North Devon & Somerset
Cheddar Gorge, Somerset
Today the West Country may be more renowned for its hosting of the Glastonbury Festival, but even before revellers started flocking here to enjoy the musical delights, people have been drawn to this beautiful part of the world every summer. It's not hard to understand why North Devon and Somerset have been so popular either; with their combination of rustic scenery and some of finest beaches Britain has to offer. A sight to behold during the autumn months in many towns in Somerset has to be the illuminated evening carnivals which are sure to capture the heart and imagination. Then who could forget the wild and beautiful destination of Exmoor - here some truly spectacular caves and gorges are waiting for you to explore.
Our team recommends...
"'Pilton is a beautiful village of quiet lanes and pretty cottages. You would never believe that Pilton is home to the annual 'Glastonbury' festival!"
Days out
Woolacombe beach on the North Devon coast has recently been named as one of the 10 best not just in Britain, but in the whole world. Wookey Hole was first inhabited by cave dwellers 50,000 years ago. Today it's a fascinating day out for all ages. There has been a castle at Dunster since the 13th century.
