The wonders of nature
The Peak District
Peveril Castle, near Castleton
The Peak District is just one of those places where you just want to leave the car behind and set off on foot to explore the immense beauty and proud history scattered across its hills and valleys. Created in 1951, primarily to provide the populations of the industrial North Midlands and the North West access to wide open spaces, it is an area which offers some of the best walking in Britain as well as endless cycle trails. For a taste of Victorian splendour, visit Buxton, where the 5th Duke of Devonshire endeavoured to create a Bath of the North. Or for a true marvel, head over to the Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath to discover how the limestone geology of the region has led to the creation of great underground caverns that are quite simply to be marvelled at.

Our team recommends...
"At the lowest part of the Peak District National Park you'll find Carsington Water a beautiful place with walking, cycling and riding trails all around. You can even hire out a dinghy or go kayaking."
Chatsworth House offers something for everyone from an adventure playground to one of Britain's finest art collections. Alton Towers is the UK's premier theme park. Spend a day there and you'll find out why. There are many caverns throughout the area, but few are as impressive as Peak Cavern in Castleton which is 60m at its highest point. There's far more than just trams at the Crich Tramway Village - there are also woodland walks, nature trails and even an Edwardian weekend.
