From the beautiful city of Cape Town, travel to the Cape Peninsula and the Winelands region, with its historic towns and scenic vineyards. The journey ends in the delightful coastal town of Knysna on South Africa's picturesque Garden Route.

Optional activities include walks, a visit to the Cheetah Outreach Programme and a Cape African outdoor dining experience at Moyo Restaurant (£24 per person). (B) Day 5 Cape Winelands: Full day tour to the Cape Winelands, travelling through vineyard-filled valleys. Visit Franschhoek, first settled by the French Huguenots in 1688; Stellenbosch, home to a host of well-preserved historic buildings; and Paarl, with its scenic beauty. There will be two wine-tastings and a cellar tour. (B) Day 6 To Oudtshoorn: Travel over the Sir Lowry Pass and descend to the coast at Hermanus where, between July and November, whales may be seen. Continue via Swellendam to Oudtshoorn, the `feather capital', a reference to its pre-eminent position at the centre of the late Victorian fashion-led ostrich feather industry. Stay overnight at the Queens Hotel. (B) Day 7 Garden Route: Morning visit to an ostrich farm and lunch at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge, which serves local Karoo cuisine (payable locally). Take a tour of Oudtshoorn, including the `feather palaces', and drive to Knysna. Stay 2 nights at Belvidere Manor, where accommodation is in Cape-style cottages that overlook the picturesque Knysna Lagoon. Optional dinner on board a Paddle Cruiser (payable locally). (B) Day 8 Garden Route: This morning, take the ferry to the Featherbed Nature Reserve on the Western Heads. Guided nature walk through forests and along the scenic coast ending in an outdoor buffet lunch. Return by ferry to Knysna. Afternoon tour, visiting the luxury beach resort of Plettenberg Bay, the Tzitzikamma Forest and Stormsriver. (B, L) Day 9 To Cape Town: Drive to Cape Town, travelling through the farmlands of the Overberg and Breede River Valley. Stop for lunch in Swellendam (payable locally) and take an optional visit to the Drostdy Museum, built in 1747 by the Dutch East India Company. Fly back to London this evening with British Airways. (B) Day 10 London: Early morning arrival. (N) Day 4 Cape Winelands: Morning at leisure to explore the Victoria & Albert Waterfront or take an optional excursion to Robben Island (£18 per person). Day 1 To Cape Town: Fly overnight from London to Cape Town with British Airways. (N) Day 2 Cape Town: Arrive and take a short orientation tour, including a cable car ascent of Table Mountain (weather permitting). Transfer to the Cullinan Hotel* for 2 nights. (N) Day 3 Cape Peninsula: Full day tour to the Cape Peninsula, travelling along spectacular coastal roads to the Cape of Good Hope. Return via the penguin colony at Simon's Town, the pretty seaside town of Muizenberg, and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. (B)
