light aircraft to Swakopmund for lunch (payable locally) and then to Wolwedans Dunes Lodge for a 3 night stay (see page 35). The entire lodge is constructed on wooden platforms and overlooks the panoramic vistas of the 185,000 hectare NamibRand Nature Reserve. Each of the 9 spacious chalets has large canvas blinds that open up to the desert beyond. (B, D) Day 7 NamibRand Nature Reserve: Full day safari on the NamibRand Nature Reserve, with a picnic served en route. Take a drive by Land Rover through the dunes; encounter large and small desert animals, and explore the ancient hunting spots of the Bushmen. Optional activities include hot air ballooning (£295 per person) and a day excursion by plane to FishRiver Canyon and Luderitz, with a scenic flight along the coast on return (£695 per person). Day 8 To London: After breakfast, fly by light aircraft to Windhoek and transfer to the Windhoek Country Club (day room available on request). Relax at the Country Club or take an optional tour of the city and township (£35 per person). Transfer to the airport and fly to London Gatwick with Air Namibia. (B) Day 9 London: Morning arrival at London Gatwick. (N) * Planes are equipped with onboard intercom headsets, allowing for two-way communication between passengers and pilot. You may like to extend your tour to Cape Town, Okonjima (home of the Africat Foundation) or Gocheganas Nature Reserve & Wellness Village (see page 33). Day 1 To Windhoek: Fly overnight from London Gatwick to Windhoek with Air Namibia. (N) Day 2 To Etosha National Park: Arrive and transfer to Windhoek Eros Airport. Fly by light aircraft to Mokuti airstrip and transfer to Onguma Tented Camp (see page 35) for a 2-night stay. Afternoon game activity in the Onguma Reserve and enjoy a sundowner overlooking Fisher Pan. Plains game roams freely in the reserve; six black rhino are protected and monitored here and more than 300 bird species can be spotted. (L, D) Day 3 Etosha National Park: Spend a day in the park in search of big game. 114 mammal species can be found in the park, including black-faced impala. Etosha is also home to 300 rare black
rhino, and reputedly the largest elephants in Africa. (B, L, D) Day 4 To Damaraland: Fly by light aircraft to Damaraland and stay 2 nights at Mowani Mountain Camp (see page 35). Afternoon excursion to see the ancient rock engravings of Twyfelfontein. Return to the camp for sundowners. (B, L, D) Day 5 Damaraland: Morning excursion to see the world-famous organ pipes, and learn how the San Bushman people communicated with their ancestors.
