Malawi: The Warm Heart of Africa 11 Days / 8 Nights from £2,795 Private Journey · Tea Estates · The Zomba Plateau · Liwonde National Park · Lake Malawi The diverse landscape of this small nation has been sculpted by the Great Rift Valley with high mountains and lush fertile plains providing habitats for Malawi's wide range of flora and fauna. Nowhere else in Africa can you enjoy a safari, walk in the mountains and relax on a beach all within a short distance of each other. Day 1 To Blantyre: Fly from London to Johannesburg on South African Airways. (N) Day 2 To Thyolo Mountain: Early morning arrival and connect with an onward flight to Blantyre. Transfer to the slopes of Thyolo Mountain and stay 2 nights at Satemwa Tea Estate in traditional, colonial bungalows with breathtaking scenery. Satemwa is a step back in time to the lifestyle of the early planters. Afternoon tour of the tea factory (payable locally). (L, D) Day 3 Mount Mulanje: Morning visit to the Mount Mulanje Massif, which rises to 2,380m. Take a short hike (approximately 2 hours) to Dziwe-Lankhalamb rock pool and falls. Afternoon at leisure. (B, L, D) Days 4 To The Zomba Plateau: Morning drive to the top of the Zomba Plateau. Stay 2 nights at Ku Chawe Inn, set on the edge of the plateau with spectacular views. Afternoon tour of the old colonial capital of Zomba including the markets, botanical gardens and the old Parliament. (B, D). Day 5 Zomba Plateau: Today is at leisure to explore the Zomba Plateau on foot or by car. There are several walking trails available from the hotel. (B, D) Day 6 To Liwonde National Park: Drive to Mvuu Lodge (see page 46) in Liwonde National Park and stay 2 nights. It is a renowned birding location and has a healthy population of elephants. (B, L, D) Day 7 Liwonde National Park: Morning and afternoon game activities. (B, D) Day 10 To London: Transfer to Lilongwe airport and fly to London with South African Airways via Johannesburg. (B) Day 11 London: Early morning arrival.
