Antsirabe, centre of the gem trade. Continue south to Fianarantsoa. Overnight at the Tsara Guest House or similar. (B, L, D) Day 5 To Ranohira: Morning visit to the market, before driving to Ambalavao for lunch and a vineyard tour. Visit Anja Reserve, dedicated to the protection of lemurs. Continue to Ranohira. Stay 2 nights at the Relais de la Reine or similar. (B, L, D) Day 6 Isalo National Park: Take a short trek to see canyons, caves and waterfalls in this eroded sandstone landscape. Visit the museum and see sunset at the natural rock window of La Fenetre de L'Isalo. (B, L, D) Day 1 To Antananarivo: Fly overnight from London to Antananarivo, via Paris, with Air Madagascar. (N) Day 2 Antananarivo: Transfer to Le Royal Palissandre, or similar, for 1 night. Afternoon tour of Antananarivo. (B, L, D) Day 3 To Antsirabe: Morning drive south to Ambatolampy. After lunch, continue to Antsirabe. Stay at the Arotel, or similar, for 1 night. (B, L, D) Day 4 To Fianarantsoa: Morning tour of Day 7 To Ifaty: Continue west. Lunch in Tulear and stay overnight at the Hotel Le Paradisier in the fishing village of Ifaty. (B, L, D) Day 8 To Mantasoa: Morning at leisure. Afternoon flight to Antananarivo and drive to Mantasoa. Stay 1 night at Riverside. (B, L, D) Day 9 To Andasibe: Morning drive to Andasibe and stay 2 nights at Vakona Lodge. Afternoon guided walk of Andasibe (Perinet) National Park, which still protects the large Indri Indri lemur. (B, L, D) Day 10 Andasibe: Full day guided walk in Day 12 To Nosy Be: Morning at leisure. Fly to Nosy Be and stay 4 nights at the Vanilla Hotel (sea-facing room). Alternatively, stay at Tsara Komba on the remote island of Nosy Komba* (see below for prices). (B, D) Days 13-15 Nosy Be: At leisure. (B, D) Day 16 To London: Morning at leisure. Afternoon flight to Antananarivo and connect to an evening flight to London, via Paris. (B) Day 17 London: Morning arrival. (N) *Nosy Komba is on a full board basis. Andasibe (Perinet) National Park. (B, L, D) Day 11 To Antananarivo: Morning walk in Mantadia National Park. Afternoon drive to Antananarivo and stay overnight at Le Royal Palissandre. (B, L, D) Day 12 To London: Visit the sacred hill of Ambohimanga and a craft market. Evening flight to London, via Paris, with Air Madagascar. (B, L) Day 13 London: Arrive London. (N) Discovery Tour: Madagascar is one of the world's poorest nations and tourism is in its infancy. Distances can be long and roads can be poor. Hotels, while sometimes not reaching western standards, are clean and comfortable.
