Cox & Kings Holidays
There are three different types of Cox & Kings holidays: Escorted Groups, Private Journeys and Tailor-Made. Below, we differentiate between the three, however, please bear in mind that almost all Escorted Group itineraries may also be taken as Private Journeys and the prices for this option are shown in the bottom sections of the price tables. If you are unsure about which category a particular holiday fits into please refer to the information above each tour itinerary - if it states "Escorted Group or Private Journey" then the tour may be taken as either, however, if it simply states "Private Journey" there are no set group departures for this tour. ESCORTED GROUPS Tour Manager: Cox & Kings' Tour Managers are carefully selected for their travel experience and organisational abilities. Your Tour Manager will meet your group on arrival in Africa and will escort you throughout your journey (unless otherwise specified). Expert Local Guides: On some tours, in addition to the services of the Tour Manager, Cox & Kings' Escorted Groups also benefit from the knowledge of local guides who accompany each excursion. In some cases, where appropriate, the Tour Manager will also act as the local guide. Where possible, your entrance fees are included in the holiday price. Airport Representatives: For all group departures from London's Heathrow or Gatwick airports, a Cox & Kings representative is available during the peak check-in period to assist with check-in and any seat requests that you may have. Scheduled Flights: Cox & Kings only uses the services of scheduled airlines for international and most internal flights. All prices are based on economy class flights, however Cox & Kings offers excellent upgrade rates on international sectors and regional connections if required and details of these are shown on the tour pages. Flight schedules to, from and within Africa mean that some early morning departures or arrivals may be unavoidable. Comfortable Land Travel: For road journeys, Cox & Kings uses air-conditioned buses of a size appropriate to the size of the group (subject to availability). First Class Accommodation: The standard and style of accommodation varies from place to place and tour to tour, however, Cox & Kings generally uses first class 4 or 5 star hotels, lodges and camps, or the best available, on all its tours.

Small Group Sizes: To enhance your enjoyment of the tour, we like to keep our groups small and manageable. Therefore, numbers are normally restricted to a maximum of 25 people. PRIVATE JOURNEYS All Escorted Groups may be taken as Private Journeys and some of the tours in this brochure are only available as Private Journeys to check which category a particular tour falls into please see just below the tour title. Private Journeys are taken by one or more passengers on the date of their choosing, subject to schedules and availability*. These tours operate exactly as per Escorted Groups except that there is no airport representation in the UK. Depending on the destination, travellers may be accompanied throughout by a guide or locally escorted in each city / destination. In addition to the services they have in common with Escorted Groups, Private Journeys offer the following benefits: Support on the Ground: On arrival in Africa, and at each new destination on your journey, you will be met by a Cox & Kings representative. This representative will accompany you to your hotel, help with your check-in and confirm the itinerary for your stay. You will be given the contact numbers of all the relevant Cox & Kings local representatives, so assistance is only ever a phone call away. Transfers by Car: In most cases, for all road journeys you will have your own car / minivan and driver. This allows you to travel in comfort and to stop off along the way if you see something of interest, want to take a photograph, or have a break. Most cars used on Cox & Kings' Private Journeys are airconditioned but you will be told in advance if airconditioned cars are not available for any section of your journey.
Private Guides: All sightseeing excursions are accompanied by your own private English-speaking local guide. This means that you can ask as many or few questions as you like and take sightseeing trips at your own pace, with the emphasis on your own particular interests. Accommodation Flexibility: If you would like to stay in any hotels other than those featured in the tour itinerary, or if you would like to upgrade the standard of your room, this can easily be arranged and you will be informed of the difference in price. Travel At Your Own Pace: Private journeys are very flexible, allowing you to start road journeys or sightseeing when you choose within reason. * Important Note: Cox & Kings cannot hold allocations for all Private Journey services all year round and, as a result, all the services are subject to availability. If any element of a Private Journey is not available at the time of booking, Cox & Kings will suggest the most comparable available alternative. "LUXURY" & "DISCOVERY" TOURS Most Cox & Kings tours are based on 5 or 4 star accommodation, or the best available. Where a holiday differs from that standard significantly, either because it is particularly luxurious or more `adventurous' in emphasis, we have highlighted this fact by applying the terms Luxury Tour and Discovery Tour immediately below the tour title. A Luxury Tour will usually feature 5 star de luxe accommodation throughout, whilst a Discovery Tour would be better suited to the more adventurous-spirited traveller as it will typically include some quite basic accommodation, possibly rougher road journeys and in some cases more adventurous activities, such as trekking. On some tours we have designated particular departure dates as Luxury Departures. This means that on those departures we have upgraded the accommodation to the standard you would expect of a Luxury Tour. These tours include the phrase "Includes Luxury Departures" immediately below the tour title. TAILORMADE JOURNEYS For those who prefer to travel at their own pace, or to explore places not included in the brochure itineraries, Cox & Kings has years of experience at organising Tailor-Made holidays to Africa. Our expert tour consultants will be pleased to suggest ideas to complement your own and to organise the most appropriate programme to suit your interests, time and budget. Tailor-Made Journeys operate on exactly the same basis as Private Journeys.
