Malta: Temples, Knights & St.Paul

From the first inhabitants, who built colossal temples close to 7,000 years ago, to the Knights of St John, Malta has preserved all the traces of its extraordinary past.
Day 1 To Sliema: Morning flight from London Heathrow to Malta with Air Malta. Transfer to the Victoria Hotel for 4 nights. (N) Day 2 Valletta & The Three Cities: Today will be spent in Valletta and The Three Cities. In Valetta, visit the Upper Barrakka Gardens, the Palace of the Grand Masters, Casa Rocca Piccola and St. John's Cathedral, one of the most important buildings in Malta, containing two masterpieces by Caravaggio. During the visit to Vittoriosa, where the knights of St John first settled, take in the Gardjola Garden, the Collachio, the Inquisitor's palace and St Laurence Church. (B) Day 3 Tarxien, Hypogeum & Hagar Qim: Morning excursion to see the megalithic temples of Tarxien and Hagar Qim. Built between 3600 and 2500 BC, these are the oldest freestanding stone structures in the world. Visit the Hypogeum, an underground necropolis, and Ghar Dalam cave, where the fossilised remains of over 7,000 animals have been found. Afternoon at leisure. (B) Day 4 Mdina & Rabat: Full day excursion to Mdina, Malta's medieval walled citadel, which has magnificent views over the island. The tour includes a visit to the Cathedral of St Paul and the Cathedral Museum. Continue to Rabat, visiting St. Agatha's Catacombs and the lavish Palazzo Parisio in Naxxar. En route back to Sliema, visit a local vineyard for wine tasting. (B) Day 5 Gozo: Full day exploration of the island of

Ta'Pinu Basilica, Gozo
Gozo. Visits include the Ggantija Temples, built on the Xaghra plateau, Calypso's Cave, which dominates one of the most breathtaking views in Malta, and the Ta'Pinu Basilica, one of the most beautiful churches in the Maltese islands. Stay 2 nights at the Calypso Hotel. (B, L) Day 6 Gozo: Full day at leisure to relax or further explore the island. (B)
