Escorted Group or Private Journey · Ancient Greek Temples & Theatres · Olympia & Delphi Greece is steeped in myth and legend, but the glories of an ancient era are very much in evidence in the beautifully preserved sites and monuments found throughout the country. This tour focuses on the classical highlights found in the mainland and includes Delphi in its stunning setting on the slopes of Mount Parnassos.
Acropolis and Parthenon, Athens
Day 1 To Athens: Fly from London Heathrow to Athens with British Airways. Transfer to the Imperial Hotel for 2 nights. (N) Day 2 Athens: Visit the National Archaeological Museum, which contains important finds from Greece's major sites. Continue to the Acropolis to see the Parthenon, a testament to the golden age of Greece, and the graceful temple of Athena Nike. (B) Day 3 To Nauplion: Drive to the Corinth Canal and on to Agamemnon's Citadel in Mycenae, visiting the Treasury of Atreus and the Acropolis. Continue to Nauplion, the first capital of Greece and one of the most attractive towns on the mainland. Stay 2 nights at Grande Bretagne Hotel. (B) Day 4 Nauplion: Morning visit to Epidavros to see the Sanctuary, the Museum and the 3rd century BC theatre. Return to Nauplion for an
afternoon visit to the fortress. (B) Day 5 Olympia: Drive through the beautiful mountain scenery of the Peloponnese to Olympia, stopping en route at Megalopolis, the former capital of a united Arcadia. Afternoon visit to the Olympia Museum, which contains some of the most important works of ancient Greek sculpture. Stay at the Hotel Olympia for 2 nights. (B) Day 6 Olympia: Morning visit to ancient Olympia, dominated by the temples of Zeus and Hera, and the first Olympic stadium. Afternoon at leisure. (B) Day 7 Delphi: Drive to Mount Parnassos and on to Delphi. Afternoon at leisure. Stay at Hotel Amalia for 1 night. (B) Day 8 Delphi: Visit the Delphi Museum, rich in Archaic sculpture. Continue to the site of
Delphi, overlooking the Gulf of Corinth. Visit the Treasuries, the Temple of Apollo, the Theatre and the Stadium. Afternoon visit to the Greek Orthodox Monastery of Hosios, before returning to Athens. Overnight stay at the Imperial Hotel. (B) Day 9 To London: Morning at leisure. Transfer to the airport for a flight to London Heathrow with British Airways.
