Today they offer a fascinating insight into the country's history, with their beautiful Orthodox churches, imposing kremlins, preserved wooden villages and peaceful rural life. This journey also visits St Petersburg and reveals some fine examples of early Russian art, architecture, frescoes, icons and mosaics.
Day 4 To Suzdal: This morning travel to Suzdal, stopping at the small town of Kostroma to visit the Monastery of St Ipaty. Stay at the Sokol Hotel for 2 nights. (B) Day 5 Suzdal: Morning tour of Suzdal, with its elaborate religious monuments and intricately decorated wooden cottages. (B) Day 6 To Moscow: This morning travel to Vladimir, medieval capital of Russia. Visits include the majestic Assumption Cathedral, the stone-carved Cathedral of St Dimitry and the Golden Gate. Continue to Moscow and stay overnight at the Marriott Tverskaya. (B)
Day 7 To St Petersburg: Morning visit to the Kremlin, followed by a panoramic city tour of Moscow. This afternoon, take the train to St Petersburg (4-5 hours). On arrival, transfer to the Helvetia Suites Hotel for 3 nights. (B) Day 8 St Petersburg: Morning visit to the Hermitage Museum, with its unrivalled collection of European masterpieces. (B) Day 9 St Petersburg: Morning tour of St Petersburg, including Nevsky Prospekt and Vasilevsky Island, entrances to the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood, and the Peter and Paul Fortress. Afternoon at leisure. (B) Day 10 To London: Morning visit to St Isaac's Cathedral. Early afternoon transfer to the airport and fly to London Heathrow with British Airways. Note: This tour is locally escorted in Moscow, the Golden Ring and St Petersburg. You will be assisted with boarding the train in Moscow and met on the platform on arrival in St Petersburg.
Day 1 To Moscow: Morning flight from London Heathrow to Moscow with British Airways. Transfer to the Marriott Tverskaya for 1 night. (N) Day 2 To Yaroslavl: This morning visit Sergiev Posad, a small town built around the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius, one of Russia's most important religious and historical landmarks. Continue to Yaroslavl, visiting Rostov Veliky, one of Russia's oldest towns, en route. Stay at the Premier Ring Hotel for 2 nights. (B) Day 3 Yaroslavl: Morning tour of Yaroslavl, a charming old town with decorative churches and monasteries. Afternoon at leisure. (B)
