Journey Through The Baltic States 10 Days / 9 Nights from £1,195 Escorted Group or Private Journey · Baroque & Art Nouveau Architecture · Riga, Tallinn & Vilnius · Beautiful Countryside Since regaining independence in 1991 and recently joining the European Union, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are flourishing. The countries' rich and colourful history can be best appreciated in their capital cities, which are an architectural delight, while the surrounding countryside features lakes, forests and wetlands, dotted with manor houses, medieval castles and splendid rococo churches. Day 6 Riga: Morning tour of Riga, the Baltic's largest and perhaps most beautiful city. The city's rich history has left a legacy of fine architecture, including many remarkable examples of Art Nouveau. Visits include the Romanesque Dome Cathedral, the Castle, St Peters Church and the House of Blackheads. Afternoon at leisure. (B) Day 7 To Tallinn: Take a leisurely journey to Tallinn, stopping en route at the 13th century ruins of Sigulda Castle, Turaida Castle in the Gauja Valley and the beachside town of Pärnu. Stay 3 nights at the Domina City Hotel in Tallinn. (B, L) Day 8 Tallinn: Morning walking tour of Tallinn, one of northern Europe's best preserved medieval towns. Founded at the beginning of the 13th century, Tallinn has been influenced by periods of Danish, German, Swedish and Russian control. Highlights include the Gothic town hall and square, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and Toompea Castle, seat of Estonia's parliament. Afternoon visit to the open-air museum at Rocca al Mare. (B) Day 9 Tallinn: Day at leisure or take an optional full day excursion to Lahemaa National Park, a habitat for lynx, wolf and brown bear, as well as rare migratory bird species. (B) Day 10 To London: Morning at leisure. Early afternoon transfer to the airport and fly to London Heathrow via Prague with CSA Czech Airlines. (B) Note: Due to their layout and narrow, often cobbled streets, the cities of the Baltic States are best explored on foot. Comfortable footwear is therefore required and the tour is not recommended for those with limited mobility. Private Journeys: In addition to the Escorted Groups, this itinerary may be taken at any time as a Private Journey, subject to availability. Please see page 8 for more information about Private Journeys. Day 1 To Vilnius: Late afternoon flight from London Heathrow to Vilnius via Prague with CSA Czech Airlines. Transfer to the Radisson SAS Astorija Hotel for 2 nights. (N) Day 2 Vilnius: Morning tour of Vilnius, including Cathedral Square, The Gate of Dawn, St Casimir's Church, the Holy Spirit Church, the Jewish Museum and Gediminas Tower. Afternoon visit to the picturesque 14th century Trakai Castle. (B) Day 3 To Klaipeda: Morning visit to Kaunas. After a visiting the Old Town with its ancient castle and cathedral, continue via the Baroque lakeside Pazaislis Monastery to Klaipeda on the Baltic coast. Stay 2 nights at the Radisson SAS Klaipeda Hotel. (B) Day 4 Klaipeda: Morning tour of Klaipeda, reminiscent of provincial Germany with its halftimbered houses. Continue to the Curonian Spit National Park, an offshore bar of sand that features pine forests, sand dunes and fishing villages. (B) Day 5 To Riga: Morning journey along the Baltic coast to Palanga. Visit the Amber Museum and the Hill of Crosses, a place of national pilgrimage. Continue to Riga and stay 2 nights at Hotel Monika. (B, L) Extension Tour + Helsinki 12 Days / 11 Nights from £1,695 The sea and an archipelago of islands surround Helsinki. The city is a delight to explore, with its magnificent neoclassical buildings and elegant plazas. Day 10 To Helsinki: Leave the group and take the hydrofoil to Helsinki. Transfer to the Radisson SAS Plaza Hotel for 2 nights. (B) Day 11 Helsinki: Full day at leisure in Helsinki, which can be easily explored on foot. (B) Day 12 To London: Morning at leisure. Afternoon transfer to the airport and fly to London Heathrow.
