Regional Weather
This guide explains the general weather conditions in each featured country and details the best time of year to travel to your chosen destination.
Armenia Summer is the best time to visit Armenia, with warm temperatures, long hours of sunshine and low rainfall between June and September. Summer nights can be chilly. Winters are extremely cold and subject to heavy snowfall.
YEREVAN
Georgia Summers are long and hot, but subject to greater rainfall, particularly on the Black Sea coast. Georgia has dry, mild winters; however, temperatures can fall dramatically in the mountains and snowfalls are likely.

Austria Austria has a moderate, Continental climate with warm summers, cool nights and cold, but sunny winters. The snow in the mountains is abundant with clear, crisp conditions. Lower down, especially in the valleys, the weather can be cloudy and foggy in autumn and winter. Summers in more central parts of Austria are as you would expect in most other Western countries; hot with lots of sunshine.
VIENNA
Greece Greece has excellent summers, with cloudless skies and up to 12 hours of continuous sun per day. Athens, located on the southern mainland, can be extremely hot, whereas the islands benefit from the sea breezes. The winters can be wet, with occasional snow, although this is more prevalent in the mountains. Crete is the largest of the Greek islands with a climate that varies depending on whether you are in the north or south. The north of the island can be quite cool in the winter months, whilst the south is constantly warm and sunny.

Baltic States The Baltic States have a very similar climate to the adjacent parts of Russia, although it can be milder, mainly due to the moderating influence of the Baltic Sea, which does not freeze for prolonged periods. The Baltics are open to the weather influences coming from the Atlantic as well as north-western Europe. During severe spells of winter weather, the area is dominated by cold winds from the interior of Russia.

Hungary Hungary has a continental climate, with extreme differences in temperature between the winter and summer months. Snowfall is frequent in winter and rain is fairly common all year round.

Bulgaria Coastal winters are often mild; however, they can be interrupted with dramatic cold spells. Summers are hot, yet the coastal areas can experience sudden thunderstorms with rain or even hail. Inland areas fair better, with hot summers and the expected cold winters minus the freezing temperatures.

Iceland Summers are warm, with winters being quite mild on the lower levels, mainly due to the warmth of the Gulf Stream. Iceland's weather can be changeable all year round, due to the island's position in the stormiest part of the Atlantic. Days can vary between sunny in the morning, wet in the afternoon with possibly snow by the evening. Between May and August, there is daylight nearly 24 hours a day.
REYKJAVIK
Cyprus Cyprus has a warm and sunny climate for most of the year, although the mountain region can be slightly cooler. Winters are usually mild. The seas around the island can be cold from December to late April. Rainfall is mainly during the winter months.

Italy Temperatures and overall conditions vary across the country. The southernmost tip of the country has the hottest and sunniest conditions in spring and summer, with autumn and winter quite mild and dry. The peak mountain areas have snow during winter and rain in the summer months. More central areas are mild throughout the year.

Finland The summers are for the most part warm, despite days being very changeable. The winter bring long bouts of more settled weather, albeit much colder. As the north of the country lies within the Artic Circle, summer days are long, with up to 10 hours of continuous sunshine. The highest temperatures are recorded in the lower lying south, which enjoys mild weather throughout the winter, while the northern area experiences freezing temperatures and snow.
