Travel on the recently rebuilt Victoria Star along the Yangtze River and see the Three Gorges Dam. Stay in Beijing's historic Raffles Hotel and enjoy a Bund view room at the Shangri-La in Shanghai. The tour also includes the lakeside town of Hangzhou and finishes in the picturesque countryside of southern China, with options to extend to Hong Kong or Asia's beautiful beaches. (B) Day 6 Terracotta Warriors: Morning visit to the Terracotta Warriors. Afternoon visit to the Shaanxi History Museum. Evening optional performance of Tang Dynasty music and dance with dinner (payable locally). (B, L) Day 7 To Chongqing: Morning tour of the Wild Goose Pagoda and old city. Afternoon flight to Chongqing on the Yangtze River. Board the Victoria Star for a 3 night cruise. (B, D) Day 1 To Beijing: Overnight flight from London to Beijing with British Airways. (N) Day 2 Beijing: Transfer to the Raffles Beijing Hotel for 3 nights. Afternoon at leisure. (N) Day 3 Beijing: Morning visit to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City and take a pedicab tour of the hutongs (back streets). Afternoon visit to the Imperial Summer Palace. (B, L) Day 4 Great Wall: Take a full day tour to the Great Day 8 Yangtze: The Victoria Star has 103 cabins, all with picture windows, en suite bathrooms and private balconies. Facilities include a restaurant, bar, reading room and beauty salon. There are also opportunities to observe and participate in Tai Chi and Chinese arts, and listen to lectures on Chinese history and culture. Cruise the upper reaches of the Yangtze with a morning excursion to the Shibaozhai Temple. (B, L, D) Day 9 Yangtze: Full day passing through the Three Gorges, with an excursion up the tributary of Shennong Stream. The cliffs here reach up to 1,200 metres and even after the dam they remain hugely impressive. It is also now possible to see places that were previously hidden. (B, L, D) Day 10 To Shanghai: Morning visit to the vast Three Gorges Dam. Disembark and fly to Shanghai for a 2 night stay at the Shangri-La Pudong Hotel (Bund view room). (B) Day 11 Shanghai: Half day tour including the Shanghai Museum and Shanghai's historic waterfront, the Bund. Evening optional visit to the state acrobatics show (payable locally). (B) Day 12 Hangzhou: Morning train journey to Hangzhou, once described by Marco Polo as the most splendid city in the world. Stay 1 night at the Shangri-La. Afternoon tour of Hangzhou, including a cruise on West Lake. (B, L) Day 13 To Guilin: Morning tour of the Temple of the Soul's Retreat and Green Well tea estate. Afternoon flight to Guilin. Stay 2 nights at the Sheraton Hotel. (B) Day 14 Guilin: Take a cruise down the Li River, past Guilin's landscape of green limestone hills, fishing villages and rice fields.
