Day 1 To Beijing: Fly from London to Beijing with British Airways. (N) Day 2 Beijing: Arrive and transfer to the Novotel Peace Hotel for 3 nights. (N) Day 3 Beijing: This morning visit Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City and take a pedicab tour of the hutongs (back streets). After lunch, continue to the Imperial Summer Palace. (B, L) Day 4 Great Wall: Take a full day tour to the Great Wall at Jinshanling Pass, a relatively quiet and dramatic section of the wall. (B, L) Day 5 To Xian: Morning visit to the Temple of Heaven. Fly to Xian for 1 night at the Hyatt Regency. Visit the Shaanxi Museum, the old city and city wall. (B) Day 6 To Chongqing: Full day tour of the Terracotta Warriors. Evening flight to Chongqing and stay for 1 night at the Harbour Plaza Hotel. (B, L) Day 7 Yangtze: This morning board the Victoria Prince for 6 nights and cruise the upper waters of the Yangtze. The Victoria Prince is one of the most spacious in the fleet, with a host of facilities. All cabins have en suite facilities, air-conditioning, and private balconies (see page 25 for more details). In the afternoon there will be an excursion to the recently deserted city of Fengdu, the `City of Ghosts'. (B, L, D) Day 8 To Three Gorges: Today, cruise through the dramatic Three Gorges, with an excursion to the Lesser Three Gorges. Evening sailing through the Three Gorges Dam locks. (B, L, D) Day 9 Dam Project: Morning visit to the Three Gorges Dam. Afternoon at leisure, cruising down the river. (B, L, D) Day 10 To Wuhan: Morning visit to Wuhan, including the Hubei Provincial Museum. (B, L, D) Day 11 To Huang Shan: Full day visit to the watercolour scenery of Huang Shan, one of China's sacred mountains. (B, L, D) Day 12 To Nanjing: Full day tour of Nanjing, a former capital of China. Visit the Sun Yat Sen Mausoleum, a Qing Dynasty bazaar and Confucian Temple. (B, L, D) Day 13 Shanghai: Morning arrival in Shanghai.
Transfer to the Central Hotel for 2 nights. Rest of the day at leisure. (B) Day 14 Shanghai: Morning tour of Shanghai, including the Jade Buddha Temple and Yu Yuan gardens with a traditional dim sum lunch. (B, L) Day 15 To London: Return flight to London with British Airways. (B) Departures: This Private Journey departs the UK on Tuesdays from March to November.
