Tour + Takayama
Available with Japan's Cultural Treasures and Essential Japan Takayama is an artisan town, located in the spectacular scenery of the Japan Alps, that retains much of the atmosphere of old Japan. The surrounding rural area, with small villages and hot spring resorts, offers good walking opportunities. Day 10 To Takayama: This morning, the bulk of your luggage will be delivered to the hotel in Osaka - a bag for 2 nights is required. Take the bullet and express trains to Takayama, changing in Nagoya. Stay at the Hida Hotel for 2 nights (or the Hakuun Ryokan for a £25 supplement). Afternoon at leisure. (B)

Day 11 Takayama: At leisure. (B) Day 12 To Osaka: Travel by express and bullet trains to Osaka, changing in Nagoya. Take the hotel courtesy bus from the train station to the Osaska Toyo for 1 night. (B) Day 13 To London: Take the airport coach and fly to London on JAL. (B) Note: The 9 April Japan's Cultural Treasures includes the Takayama Festival which features an elaborate parade of floats and shrines. Tour + Kyushu
Available with Japan's Cultural Treasures and Essential Japan The southern island of Kyushu has lush countryside, a volcanic landscape and a mild climate. This extension offers the chance to relax in hot springs, visit Kumamoto and its dramatic castle, and see the striking landscape of the active Mount Aso. Day 10 To Beppu: Take the airport express bus to Osaka Haneda. Fly to Oita. Airport bus transfer to the Suginoi Palace Hotel, set on a hillside overlooking the town of Beppu. Stay 2 nights. (B) Day 11 Beppu: At leisure to enjoy the onsen (hot springs). Beppu has over 100 springs, including the unusual hot sand bath and bubbling mud ponds. (B)

Tour + Shikoku
Available with Japan's Cultural Treasures and Essential Japan Connected to the mainland by the world's longest combined road and rail bridge, Shikoku remains off the beaten track and features sacred shrines and mountains, deep gorges, exquisite gardens, traditional onsen and historic castles. Day 10 To Takamatsu: This morning, the bulk of your luggage will be delivered to the hotel in Osaka a bag for 3 nights is required. Take the bullet and express trains to Takamatsu, changing in Okayama. Stay at the ANA Clement Takamatsu Hotel for 2 nights. Afternoon at leisure to explore Ritsurin and Tamano Parks. (B) Day 11 Takamatsu: At leisure or take a local train to visit the shrine `Kotohira'. (B) Day 12 To Dogo Spa: This morning, take an express train to Matsuyama. Make your own way to Dogo Spa by local tram or taxi. Overnight at the Yamatoya Besso Ryokan. Afternoon at leisure to soak in the ancient hot springs which date from 1894. (B, D) Day 13 To Osaka: Enjoy a traditional Japanese

breakfast at the ryokan. Afternoon transfer by airport bus and fly from Matsuyama to Osaka. Transfer to the Swissotel Nankai Osaka for 1 night. (B) Day 14 to London: Make your way to the station and take a short train ride to the airport. Fly to London on JAL.
