Discovery Tour: Please see page 9 for details. Whilst a visit to Mongolia is a vastly rewarding experience, it is a wilderness destination, the accommodation is basic and, except in Ulaan Baatar, you will stay in Gers, large traditional heated tents with communal bathrooms. Cox & Kings use the best Gers available. Travelling is over long distances in 4 x 4 jeeps and sometimes over rough terrain. Private Journeys: In addition to the Escorted Group departures this itinerary may be taken at any time as a Private Journey featuring private transfers and sightseeing. Private Journeys are locally escorted and the prices are shown on the main price table. Please see page 8 for more information about Private Journeys. Naadam Festival: Dating from the Genghis Khan era, the Naadam Festival is a showcase for traditional sporting events and a celebration enjoyed throughout Mongolia from 11-13 July. The most spectacular events for visitors take place at the National Stadium in Ulaan Baatar where nomads compete in wrestling, archery and horsemanship. Both the 29 June and 8 July tours include the colourful opening ceremony and first day of the festival. Extension Tour + Beijing This extension offers the chance to explore the Chinese capital which has a fascinating heritage and is now rapidly modernising. Day 15 Beijing: Stay 2 additional nights at the Novotel Peace Hotel. Morning visit to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City and a pedicab tour of the Hutongs (back streets). Afternoon visit to the Imperial Summer Palace. (B, L) Day 16 Great Wall: Take a full day tour to the Great Wall at Jinshanling Pass, a relatively quiet and dramatic section of the wall. (B, L) Day 17 To London: Transfer to the airport and fly to London.
