Hill Tribes of Sapa + Tour
16 Days / 13 Nights from £2,495 Explore the colourful and picturesque upland region of North Vietnam. This area is home to communities who migrated from neighbouring China, and inhabitants have retained their colourful ethnic culture and dress. The scenery is a magnificent sweep of valleys and steep-sided mountains intricately carved by the ancestors of the resident hill tribes to create lush green rice terraces. Travel to Sapa by the classically restored Victoria Express train and stay in the colonial-style Victoria Sapa Hotel. Day 1 To Hanoi: Fly from London to Hanoi, via Bangkok. (B) Day 4 Sapa: Morning arrival. Transfer through the mountains to the French colonial town of Sapa for an overnight stay at the Victoria Hotel. This afternoon, walk through rice terraces and past minority villages to Tavan Village, home to the H'mong and Dzay communities. (B) Day 5 Sapa: Drive to the highland town of Bac Ha with its colourful weekend market. Overnight train journey back to Hanoi (twin-berth cabin). Vientiane. Fly to Luang Prabang and stay 3 nights at the La Residence Phou Vao, a boutique hotel with lush gardens and mountain views. Afternoon visit to Luang Prabang's Wats and Phousey Hill as the sun sets over the river. (B) Day 13 Luang Prabang: Take a morning boat tour to the Pak Ou Caves, where thousands of Buddha images have been left by worshippers over the centuries. After a picnic lunch, visit a local rice wine distillery and the weaving village of Ban Phanom. (B, L) Day 14 Luang Prabang: Day at leisure in this peaceful town, or travel into the jungle and see the beautiful Khouangsi waterfall (optional tour, not included in the price).
