The Mekong gives life to delta towns in Vietnam and Cambodia, and on this journey you will travel to small riverside villages and past sleepy temples that, being inaccessible by road, are well off the tourist trail. The journey ends at the majestic temples of Angkor.
Day 2 Saigon: Arrive and transfer to the Caravelle Hotel for 2 nights. (N) Day 3 Saigon: Morning city tour. Afternoon tour of the Cu Chi tunnels, the underground network dug by the Viet Cong. (B, L) Day 4 Mekong Cruise: Mid-morning embarkation of the R/V Mekong Pandaw or R/V Tonle Pandaw for 7 nights. Spend a relaxing day navigating the waters of the Mekong Delta. (B, L, D)
Village, known for it's silk weaving. Afternoon visit to Peam Chikang where long, elaborately painted racing boats are kept in the Wat. (B, L, D) Day 8 Kampong Cham: Visit the 12th century temple of Wat Nokor, holy Phnom Pros and Phnom Srei (Man and Woman Hill). Afternoon speedboat tour to the pre-Angkorian temple of Wat Hanchey. Moor overnight by a Cambodian village. (B, L, D) Day 9 Phnom Penh: Return downstream to the capital. Visit the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and the National Museum. Optional tour to the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum, which documents life under the Khmer Rouge. Option to dine in the city on the lively promenade. Pandaw Mekong Cruises
The RV Mekong Pandaw and RV Tonle Pandaw are replicas of colonial era river steamers with ultra shallow hulls allowing access to remote locations and previously unexplored areas. Constructed in a traditional 1920's marine style, all 38 spacious airconditioned cabins are finished in teak and brass. There is a dining room, cocktail bar and sun deck. All shore excursions organised by the boat operator are accompanied by English-speaking guides. Day 1 To Saigon: Fly from London to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), via Bangkok, with Thai Airways. (N) Day 5 Cai Be: Morning boat trip around Cai Be floating market, and walk ashore to see French colonial buildings and churches. Return to the ship and continue cruising through the Mekong Delta to anchor at Chau Doc. (B, L, D) Day 6 Chau Doc: Coach tour to Mount Nui Sam with its Buddhist shrines.
