Thailand in Style
Starting at the exceptional Dhara Dhevi Resort and Spa in Chiang Mai, this tour continues with a 2 night journey on the elegant Eastern & Oriental Express to Bangkok. Finish at the majestic Oriental Hotel beside the Chao Phraya River, with the option to extend your tour at one of Thailand's beaches.
Day 1: Overnight flight from London to Chiang Mai. (N) Day 2: Transfer to the Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi for 3 nights in a Colonial Suite. Afternoon at leisure. (N) Day 3: Travel into the hills and jungle around Chiang Mai and take an elephant-back safari to Lisu hill tribe village. Afternoon gentle bamboo rafting on the Ping River and visit an orchid farm. (B, L) Day 4: Day at leisure with optional tours available, or relax at the spa. Dinner at Le Grand Lanna. (B, D) Day 5: Afternoon transfer to the station and board the Eastern & Oriental Express for the 2 night journey to Bangkok (Pullman compartment). Afternoon tea as the train sets off. Gourmet dinner on board. (B, D). Day 6: Breakfast in your compartment before arriving at Sawankhaloke. Disembark and take a tour of Si Satchanalai, part of the northernmost citadel of the ancient Khmer empire. Return to the train at Sila At for lunch and continue your journey through Thailand. In the afternoon disembark at Lampang for a horse-drawn ride to Baan Sao Nok. Return to the train for dinner. (B, L, D) Day 7: Arrive in Bangkok after breakfast and transfer to the Oriental Hotel for 3 nights (River View room). (N) Day 8: Tour the Grand Palace and Emerald Buddha and take a Thai lunch at the Supatra River House. Afternoon visit to Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, ride along the Bangkok klongs (canals), and join the Wan Fah converted rice barge for a cruise down the river. (B, L) Day 9: Today there is the choice of either a Thai cookery class or a spa treatment. Barbecue dinner at the Riverside Terrace. (B, D) Day 10: Evening transfer to the airport and fly to London. Return for lunch and an afternoon at leisure. Dinner is served travelling through the countryside. (B, L, D) Day 6: Morning in northern Malaysia, followed by a tour to colonial Penang. The rest of the day is spent travelling down the Malay Peninsula. Dinner aboard. (B, L, D) Day 7: After breakfast on board, travel across the Straits of Johor into Singapore.
