Guilin, China instructions for where to meet the regular shuttle bus to their hotel. In Japan Cox & Kings uses hotels that are immediately adjacent to railway station so when rail journeys are involved transfers between the station and the hotel will normally be on foot. If you would like the services of private guides and drivers in Japan and Taiwan, and you are prepared for the high costs involved, it is recommended that you book a tailor-made holiday. TAILOR-MADE JOURNEYS For those who prefer to travel at their own pace or to explore places not included in the brochure itineraries, Cox & Kings has years of experience at organising Tailor-Made holidays to the Far East. Our expert tour consultants will be pleased to suggest ideas to complement your own and to organise the most appropriate programme to suit your interests, time and budget. Tailor-Made Journeys operate on exactly the same basis as Private Journeys. "LUXURY" & "DISCOVERY" TOURS Most Cox & Kings tours are based on 5 or 4 star accommodation, or the best available. Where a holiday differs from that standard significantly, either because it is particularly luxurious or more `adventurous' in emphasis, we have highlighted this fact by applying the terms Luxury Tour and Discovery Tour immediately below the tour title. A Luxury Tour will usually feature 5 star de luxe accommodation throughout, whilst a Discovery Tour would be better suited to the more adventurous-spirited traveller as it will typically include some quite basic accommodation, possibly longer and rougher road journeys and in some cases more adventurous activities, such as trekking. On some tours we have designated particular departure dates as Luxury Departures. This means that on those departures we have upgraded the accommodation to the standard you would expect of a Luxury Tour. These tours include the phrase "Includes Luxury Departures" immediately below the tour title. Please refer to www.coxandkings.co.uk for more information about the standards and facilities offered by all the hotels featured in this brochure. HOLIDAY EXTENSIONS Cox & Kings is happy to arrange for you to extend your stay in the Far East. We have suggested possible extension options for most of the tours in this brochure, however our specialist consultants would also be delighted to design a tailor-made extension, either pre or post tour, to fit in with your particular interests. Please note that tour extensions are operated on the same basis as Private Journeys. WHEN TO TRAVEL The changing climate can have a major impact on the timing of trips to the Far East and page 72 has detailed charts showing temperature and rainfall in the various regions. These climate charts are based on historic data and in a world of increasingly changeable weather they should be regarded as indicative of typical conditions rather than guarantees of what you should expect at particular times of year. The Far East is also well known for its festivals and if you are interested in visiting a particular celebration please contact a Cox & Kings Tour Consultant for dates. Some Cox & Kings tours have special festival departures and these are highlighted on the tour page. ACCOMMODATION There is not room to describe all the hotels in this brochure in detail, however, many of the best and most interesting properties are described and depicted in the Hotel Portfolio sections, and the grading and facilities of all the hotels are listed on our website at www.coxandkings.co.uk. REGIONAL AIR CONNECTIONS & FLIGHT UPGRADES Most Cox & Kings holidays are based on flights out of London's Heathrow or Gatwick airports, however, in most cases it is possible to connect with those flights from regional British airports for a small supplement. In addition, Cox & Kings can offer very favourable prices for upgrading to premium economy and business classes. For many holidays this supplement information is included on the tour page, however, where space does not allow this you can refer to another tour that features the same international airline to find the applicable supplement prices. SINGLE & SOLE SUPPLEMENTS Most hotels round the world charge more per person for a single-occupancy room than for a shared twin room because the cost of maintaining a room for one person can be almost as high as it is for two. In addition, many single-occupancy rooms are the same as twin / double rooms. Most of the price tables in this brochure indicate supplementary charges for single or sole passengers. The difference in definition between the two supplements is that a `Single' traveller is someone occupying a single room whilst travelling with one or more other people, whilst a `Sole' traveller is someone travelling on their own. If you are planning to travel on a group tour as a single traveller you should look at the `Single Supplement' price, however, if you are planning to add an extension to that tour you should read down the `Sole Supplement' column and these prices take into account the fact that you are `Sole' on the extension section only. IMPORTANT NOTE When making a booking, if you feel that there is anything Cox & Kings should know about that is essential to your enjoyment of your holiday, please ensure that we have been made aware of this in writing at the time of booking, preferably on the Reservation Form itself (see page 74).
