15 Days / 13 Nights from £1,395 Escorted Group or Private Journey · Desert Citadel of Jaisalmer · Rural Rajasthan · Character Accommodation The princely states of Rajputana, now Rajasthan, were once the domain of courageous warriors and lavish ruling dynasties. Following a tour of Delhi, this journey travels into the heart of Rajasthan and explores many of the region's magnificent forts and palaces, its most atmospheric cities and the stunning desert scenery.
Rohetgarh Fort / Fort Chanwa. (B, D) Day 9 Rohet / Luni: Morning jeep safari to visit the Bishnoi tribal villages. (B, D) Day 10 To Udaipur: Drive south to the lake city of Udaipur, via the exquisite Jain temples at Ranakpur. Evening arrival, and stay for 2 nights at The Grand Laxmi Vilas Palace. (B) Day 11 Udaipur: Morning tour of the City Palace and Jagdish Temple. Afternoon at leisure. (B) Day 1 To Delhi: Fly from London to Delhi with Jet Airways. (N) Day 2 Delhi: Late morning arrival and transfer to the Maidens Hotel (or similar) for 1 night. Afternoon tour of Old Delhi to see Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Raj Ghat. (N) Day 3 To Alsisar: Drive to Alsisar and stay overnight at the Alsisar Mahal / Indra Vilas. Afternoon walking tour of Alsisar's havelis. (B) Day 4 To Bikaner: Transfer to Bikaner, once a major trading centre on the caravan route linking Central Asia with north India. Stay 2 nights at the Laxmi Niwas Palace, the former residence of the Maharaja of Bikaner. (B) Day 5 Bikaner: Morning visit to Junagarh Fort. Afternoon at leisure. (B) Day 6 To Jaisalmer: Drive to Jaisalmer for an overnight stay at Fort Rajwada / Gorbandh Palace. Afternoon tour of Jaisalmer Fort, often referred to as the `Golden Fort' due to the colour of its sandstone walls. (B) Day 7 To Manvar: Drive to Manvar in the Thar Desert. Following a visit to local villages, continue to the tented camp (see page 69 for details). Evening Rajasthani dinner and music amid the sand dunes, followed by an overnight stay at the camp. (B, L, D) Day 8 To Rohet: Drive to Jodhpur and visit the majestic Meherangarh Fort. Continue to the village of Rohet / Luni and stay 2 nights at

Day 15 To Delhi: Early morning transfer and fly to Delhi. Transfer to the international airport for a flight to London with Jet Airways. (N) Note: This tour offers an excellent opportunity to experience rural life in one of India's most colourful regions. Wherever possible, accommodation is in heritage properties, many of which are former royal forts and palaces. While most are of a high standard, they do have fewer facilities than modern hotels. Private Journeys: In addition to the Escorted Group departures, this itinerary may be taken at any time as a Private Journey, subject to availability, and the prices for this option are shown on the price table. Please see page 8 for more information about Private Journeys. Pushkar Festival (10-13 Nov): This transforms the sleepy village of Pushkar into a fairground. Preceding the festival, merchants gather to trade thousands of camels. The 25th Oct departure takes in the camel fair, is two nights longer in duration, and includes a stay in `De luxe Tents' at Pushkar on a full board basis.
Day 12 To Jojawar: Drive to Jojawar and stay overnight at Rawla Jojawar. Afternoon excursion, travelling through the Aravalli Hills by local train. (B, D) Day 13 To Jaipur: Drive to Jaipur and visit the City Palace, home of the present Maharaja. Stay for 2 nights at Alsisar Haveli, located in the heart of `Pink City'. (B) Day 14 Jaipur: Optional morning village exploration or elephant back safari. Afternoon tour of the ancient fort palace of Amber. (B)
Extension Tour + Taj Mahal
18 Days / 16 Nights from £1,720 Extend your time in India with a visit to Agra and the Taj Mahal. Day 15 To Agra: Drive to Agra via Fatehpur Sikri. Stay 2 nights at The Grand Imperial. (B) Day 16 Agra: Early morning visit to the Taj Mahal, followed by a tour of Agra Fort and the tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah. (B) Day 17 To Delhi: Drive to Delhi. Stay overnight at the Radisson or similar.
