Travelling through three very different countries on a journey from the Gangetic plains of Bangladesh, through the Indian states of Darjeeling and Sikkim, into the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan, this tour captures the highlights of a region of unforgettable contrasts. Day 8 Darjeeling: Morning at leisure. Afternoon guided walking tour of Darjeeling. (B, D) Day 9 Darjeeling: Pre-dawn visit to Tiger Hill to see sunrise over the Himalaya, followed by a visit to Ghoom Monastery. Optional journey on the toy train (subject to train being in service). (B, D) Day 10 To Pelling: Drive to Pelling. Visit the famous Pemayangtse Monastery. Stay 1 night at the Norbugang Resort. (B, L, D) Day 11 To Gangtok: Drive to Gangtok via the Rumtek Monastery, the largest in Sikkim. Stay 2 nights at the Nork-Hill / Tashi Delek Hotel. (B, D) Day 12 Gangtok: Morning tour of Phodong Monastery. This afternoon, visit the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology and the Do-Drul Chorten, an imposing white stupa. (B, L, D) Day 13 To Kalimpong: Drive to the remote hill station of Kalimpong, set in beautiful wooded mountain scenery and once a key trade point between India, Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet. Stay overnight at the Himalaya / Silver Oaks Hotel. (B, D) Day 14 To Phuentsholing: Drive from Kalimpong to the border town of Phuentsholing. Stay 1 night at the Druk Hotel. (B) Day 15 To Thimpu: Drive to Thimpu, through the scenic countryside of the Kingdom of Bhutan. Stay 2 nights at the River View / Druk Hotel. (B, L, D) Day 16 Thimpu: Full day tour of the Bhutanese capital, including the Tashichhodzong, `fortress of the glorious religion'. (B, L, D) Day 17 To Punakha: Early morning drive to Dolchu Pass, where on a clear day you can see the highest peaks in Bhutan. Continue to Punakha. Afternoon visit to Punakha and Wangdu Phodrang Dzongs. Overnight at the Zangtoe Peltri Hotel. (B, L, D) Day 18 To Paro: Morning drive to Paro. Stay 3 nights at the Gangtey Palace / Olathang Hotel*. Afternoon visit to the Ta-Dzong, now the National Museum. (B, L, D) Day 19 Paro: Morning trek to Taksang (Tiger's Nest), the cliff-side temple perched high over Paro. Afternoon at leisure. (B, L, D) Day 20 Paro: Morning drive to Haa Valley for magnificent views of Mount Chomolhari and the surroundings. Drive back to Paro. (B, L, D) Day 21 To Calcutta: Early morning flight to Calcutta. This afternoon visit the Marble Palace and South Park Cemetery. Stay at The Oberoi Grand / Taj Bengal until departure to the airport. (B) Day 1 To Dhaka: Overnight flight to Dhaka with British Airways. (N) Day 2 Dhaka: Morning arrival and transfer to the Dhaka Sheraton / Pan Pacific Hotel for 2 nights. Afternoon cruise on the Buriganga River through the heart of Dhaka. (N) Day 3 Dhaka: Morning tour of Old Dhaka and the Liberation War Museum. Afternoon at leisure. (B) Day 4 To Bogra: Drive via Jamuna Bridge to Puthia. Visit the Rajbari and Hindu temples. Continue to Bogra. Stay 2 nights at the Naz Garden Hotel. (B) Day 5 Bogra: Visit the ancient site of Pharapur, once the largest Buddhist monastery south of the Himalaya, and the ancient archaeological site of Mahastangarh. (B) Day 6 To Rangpur: Drive via the ornate Kantanagar terracotta temple to Rangpur. Stay overnight at Rangpur PBC / Rangpur RDRS. (B) Day 7 To Darjeeling: Make an early start for a full day drive across the Burimari border into India. Continue to Darjeeling for a 3 night stay at the Cedar Inn / Mayfair.
