15 Days / 13 Nights from £2,145 Private Journey · Grand Colonial Buildings of Madras · Ornate Temples · Keralan Backwaters Travelling across southern India from the east to west, over the tropical hills of the Western Ghats to Cochin, this tour showcases the diverse attractions of this region. Highlights include the flamboyant Hindu temples of Tamil Nadu, the colonial architecture of Madras, a cruise on the Kerala backwaters, and a visit to the port city of Cochin, a former centre of the spice trade.
Day 1 To Chennai (Madras): Overnight flight from London to Chennai, via Dubai, with Emirates. (N) Day 2 Chennai Morning arrival and transfer to the Taj Connemara Hotel for 2 nights. Morning at leisure. Afternoon tour of Chennai, visiting some of India's oldest British monuments. (N) Day 3 Kanchipuram: Morning visit to the rural temple town of Kanchipuram, also known for its silk weavers. Return to Chennai this afternoon. (B) Day 4 To Pondicherry: Morning visit to the Museum of South Indian Building Design at Dakshinachitra, before continuing to Mahabalipuram to see the exquisite rock cut shore temples. This afternoon, transfer to Pondicherry and stay 2 nights at the Hotel De L' Orient. (B) Day 5 Pondicherry: Morning tour of Pondicherry, including a visit to the Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville. Afternoon at leisure. (B) Day 6 To Tanjore: Drive to Tanjore and stay for 2 nights at the Hotel Parisutham. (B) Day 7 Tanjore: Morning visit to the grand Brihadeeswara Temple and Chola Museum. (B)

the Meenakshi Temple and temple markets in the evening. (B) Day 10 To Munnar: Morning drive to Munnar, a beautiful area of winding roads, tea gardens, and cardamom plantations. Afternoon at leisure, or take an optional excursion to see cardamom being cultivated and processed. Overnight at Windermere Estate. (B) Day 11 To Kumarakom: This morning, drive to Kumarakom in the heart of Kerala's backwater region. Stay for 2 nights at the Kumarakom Lake Resort. Afternoon at leisure. (B) Day 12 Kumarakom: Morning backwater cruise through narrow canals and inland waterways. Afternoon at leisure. (B) Day 13 To Cochin: Drive to the port city and former spice centre of Cochin this afternoon. Stay for 2 nights at Malabar House Residency. Optional evening visit to a Kathakali dance performance. (B) Day 14 Cochin: Morning tour of Cochin, including Jewtown, the Chinese fishing nets and St Francis Church. Afternoon at leisure. Alternatively, take an optional harbour cruise or visit Mattancherry Palace. (B) Day 15 To London: Early morning transfer to the airport and fly to London, via Dubai, with Emirates. Day 8 To Madurai: This morning, visit Trichy's Rock Fort Temple, Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple and St. John's Church. Afternoon drive to Madurai and stay at the Taj Garden Retreat for 2 nights. (B, L)
