Guyana's highlands contain the world's tallest single-drop cascade, the mighty Kaieteur Falls. This journey explores its many and varied natural wonders.
Day 8 Karanambu: Day exploring the savannah and flood forest of the Rupununi River. (B, L, D) Day 9 To Shanklands: Afternoon flight to Kaieteur Falls. Surrounded by pristine rainforest, they are five times the height of Niagara Falls. Fly to Baganara Island, and on to Shanklands Resort for 2 nights. (B, L, D) Day 10 Shanklands: Travel up the Essequibo and Mazaruni Rivers to Kyk-Over-Al and the Marshall Falls, an ideal jungle swimming spot. (B, L, D) Day 11 To Georgetown: Morning at leisure before returning to Georgetown. Overnight at Cara Lodge. (B, L) Day 12 To London: Morning tour of Georgetown. Fly to London, via Bridgetown, with Liat and British Airways (B) Day 13 London: Arrive London. However, Guyana is a wilderness destination, and accommodation at Iwokrama and Karanambu is extremely basic, with electricity supplied by generators and limited to certain hours. Day 1 To Georgetown: Fly to Georgetown, via Bridgetown, with British Airways and Liat. Overnight at Cara Lodge. (N) Day 2 To Iwokrama: Morning flight to the interior, stay 1 night at Iwokrama Field Station. Afternoon free to explore jungle trails with a ranger. Evening river boat trip. (B, L, D) Day 3 To Rock View: Walk up Turtle Mountain with its Amerindian petroglyphs. Evening exploration of the rainforest's upper levels from the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway.
