The Natural Splendour of Costa Rica
11 Days / 9 Nights from £1,525 Escorted Group or Private Journey · Nesting Sea Turtles · Abundant Bird Life · Beach Options Costa Rica is a small country, yet its particular topography and position between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans result in it being one of the most biologically diverse places on earth. This journey explores several contrasting habitats, including rainforest, cloud forest, the jungle canopy and an active volcano. There is also the chance to relax at the end of the tour on some wonderful beaches.
Day 7 To Monteverde: Take a boat across Lake Arenal, taking in the spectacular views of the mountains and the lake. Continue through the green mountains to Monteverde and transfer to El Sapo Dorado Hotel for 2 nights. Afternoon tour to the Selvatura Canopy Walkway. (B) Day 8 Monteverde: Morning tour of the Monteverde Cloud Forest, a habitat for rare flora and fauna including the beautifully coloured quetzal. Afternoon at leisure or take optional tours, including the butterfly farm or Santa Elena Reserve. (B) Day 1 To San José: Fly to Miami with British Airways, and on to San José with American Airlines. Transfer to the Melia Cariari for 2 nights. (N) Day 2 San José: Morning excursion to the Café Britt factory for a tour that traces coffee's journey from plantation to cup. Continue to INBioparque, where you will have an introduction to Costa Rica's ecosystems through its exhibits and trails. (B, L) Day 3 To Tortuguero: Transfer to Matina Dock and board a boat to cruise through the canals and backwaters that lead to Tortuguero, looking for monkey, sloth, bird species, and other wildlife en route. Transfer to Mawamba Lodge for 2 nights. (B, L, D) Day 4 Tortuguero: A full day of local excursions in Tortuguero. From July to September, an option is available to observe the turtles nesting on the beach. (B, L, D) Day 5 To Arenal: Transfer to Tortuguero airstrip and fly to San José. Transfer to Arenal, visiting La Paz Waterfall Gardens en route. Stay at the Arenal Paraiso Hotel for 2 nights. Afternoon at leisure or explore the surrounding trails. (B) Day 6 Arenal: Today, choose either a full day tour to Cano Negro Wildlife Reserve, a very important wetland habitat for a number of bird species, an Arenal Hanging Bridges tour, or an Eco Culture tour. (B)

Day 10 To London: Morning flight to Miami with American Airlines, and on to London with British Airways. (B) Day 11 London: Morning arrival. (N) Note: This tour is fully escorted from San José to San José. This tour includes some long drives on unpaved roads. All the lodges are clean and comfortable but don't always have a large range of facilities. Day 9 To San José: Morning return to San José, visiting Sarchi en route, with an opportunity to buy traditional handicrafts. Transfer to the Melia Cariari for 1 night. (B)
