HIGHLIGHTS
Geneva this beautiful, cosmopolitan city framed by the Alps, the Jura Mountains and Lake Geneva; is modern and sophisticated boasting a good variety of museums, galleries, gardens and parks. Montreux the world famous resort of Montreux has an impressive air or grandeur with elegant hotels and its broad lakeside promenade. A must visit is the 13th century lakeside Chateau de Chillion, which was immortalised by the poet Byron, or take the rack and pinion railway up 2045m to Rochers-de-Naye; or just lose yourself on a delightful walk through the woods, vineyards or flower-filled meadows on the slopes behind Montreux. Lucerne lying on the shores of glistening Lake Lucerne, this picturesque city of medieval origin is truly a hidden gem. Explore the maze of quaysides and alleyways in the Old Town, take a steamer trip on the crystal-clear lake, or climb high into the mountains by breathtaking railway or aerial cable car on Mount Titlis. Interlaken the picturesque town of Interlaken lies in the heart of the Bernese Oberland set between the two lakes of Thun and Brienz. SHOPPING
Head to Geneva's Old Town for shopping; department stores can be found along the Ruse Basses', as can antique shops, while Rue du Rhone has more select boutiques. Lucerne and Montreux specialise in smaller boutiques and markets, and Montreux particularly is the place to be for designer clothes. While Interlaken has some department stores, it's the traditional crafts that draw buyers to the fine linen, hand-made chocolates and famous wooden carvings.
