Ghent, Ypres, Mechelen & Ostend
Four delightful Flemish towns in the north of Belgium. Ghent and Ypres are steeped in history, Mechelen is a city of art and Ostend offers more of a relaxed city breakby the sea front.
HIGHLIGHTS
Menin Gate, Ypres built to commemorate those who lost their lives in the war, this is one of Ypres' most moving landmarks. St Bavo's Cathedral, Ghent from its humble beginnings as a parish church, the cathedral now houses 27 chapels and one of the largest crypts in Europe, and the 82m bell tower is an amazing sight. Fine Arts Museum, Ostend the museum plays host to a wealth of arts from natives James Ensor, Jan de Clerck, Constant Permeke and Leon Spilliaert. The City of Mechelen Museum, Mechelen a 16th century mansion housing beautiful sculptures, art and furniture.

EATING & DRINKING
The seafront in Ostend has cheerful pavement cafes to relax and have a beer, while Mechelen excels with gastronomic delights. Ghent's Patershol district is full of dining experiences, including a heavy French contingent, while Ypres' Grote Markt has plenty restaurants, bars and cafes with Flemish fare.
SHOPPING
Mechelen has excellent shopping, along its maze of pedestrianised streets; Ypres is ideal for those seeking individual small boutique shops, while Saturday's market in Mechelen's Grote Markt is the largest market in Flanders.

TRAVEL & TRANSFERS Travel by Eurostar/train takes approximately 3 hours. Eurostar takes 1hr 51mins from London St. Pancras to Brussels Midi station or 10 minutes quicker from Ebbsfleet or Ashford. A change of train will take you to Ghent, Ypres, Mechelen or Ostend, journey time approximately 1 hour.
