Lille
Situated in the north of France, close to the Belgian border, Lille is a delightful blend of French flair and Belgian joie de vivre.
HIGHLIGHTS
Palais des Beaux-Arts the largest museum in France after the Louvre. The Old Town the historical centre, filled with cobbled squares and narrow streets including La Vielle Bourse, which houses booksellers and florists six days a week. Museum of Charles de Gaulle celebrates the life of Lille's most famous son. Architecture colourful Flemish style mixed with narrow ornamented façades.
EATING & DRINKING
Specialities in Lille include carbonnades flamande (beef stew) and lapins aux prunes (rabbit with prunes). Make sure you sample some local cheese, such as Vieux-Lille, and wash it down with a glass of locally brewed beer.
SHOPPING
If you're looking for bargains, try the Roubaix factory outlets a short ride from the centre. Euralille mall houses over 100 high street brands and one-off designs can be found in the Old Town. Try out the Christmas Market an ideal opportunity to do all your Christmas shopping or buy yourself a festive treat.
