Helping with the reconstruction of primary schools in the Jinja area of Uganda. You may undertake manual labour, simple building, decorating and landscaping jobs as well as working around the schools, alongside locals. All projects are run with onsite supervision. Rating: Challenging. Crew: Western and local staff. Vehicle: Local transport. Accommodation: 100% accommodated with full board in dorms at Nile River Explorer campsite at Bujagali Falls, which offers a bar, restaurant, toilets, showers (with great views), rafting and river boarding. If you have opted to work on a school building project, you will be guided by the Soft Power Operations Manager as well as by the local Ugandan Master builders. Days Off: For a day or two off from working, have a go at any of the numerous activities that are available. This can be organised through Nile River Explorers (who are associated with Soft Power Education). They will be able to assist in organising white water rafting, quad biking, bungi jumping & a host of other adventure activities. Notes: Not included: Food on the final day, personal costs, transfers to and from Jinja (please see trip notes for further details). Extras: Additional weekly extensions to projects and/or upgrades to village accomodation can be arranged with Soft Power Education on arrival in Uganda. These costs are payable locally. This volunteer project is available as a two-week add-on to any trip starting or finishing in Kampala or Nairobi. It is only available in conjunction with a Dragoman Overland trip. You will not be escorted by a Dragoman Overland crew member. www.softpowereducation.com itinerary Start/finish Days: Projects start on a Monday or Saturday & finish on a Sunday or Friday. Joining Notes: You will be expected to make your own way to Jinja. Day 1: After breakfast, you will be introduced to the team as well as having an induction from a Soft Power supervisor. Today in discussion with Soft Power, you will decide what project & jobs are best suited to your skills & needs. In the evening you will be transported back to the camp site for evening meal & relaxation. B.L.D. Days 2-14: You will complete project work on a daily basis, your daily work load will be designed to suit your aptitude & wishes. The emphasis is to create a rich learning environment by improving school infrastructures. B.L.D. Daily Routine: Every project is different & most volunteers will want to do different jobs. After a breakfast of local produce, you will be transported to your chosen project for a day of work. At the end of the morning you will have a lunch of local food followed by a short afternoon's work before heading back to the campsite. Here you will have the main meal of the day & be able to relax in the comfort of this beautiful camp site. The level of supervision that you will have depends on what you are doing.
