A trip of two parts, easy relaxed travel through Morocco, with good facilities and roads. Expedition style journey across Western Sahara and Mauritania. Flexible itinerary in Sahara to explore but limited facilities. Excellent trip for the adventurous traveller. Itinerary liable to change depending on time needed to explore. Rating: Challenging. Crew: 2 crew, local guides as necessary. Vehicle: Classic Dragoman truck. Accommodation: 85% camping, 15% hotels. Mainly campsites, some wildcamps, hostel/hotel.

Week 5: Saharan Exploration & the Coast: · Time for Saharan Desert Exploration, flexible itinerary to allow us to explore · Possible areas to visit, the dunefields around the ancient Ksours, such as Chinguetti · Visit to the atmospheric city of St. Louis

Week 1: Europe & Northern Morocco: · Cross western Europe through France and Spain through to Ceuta · 2 nights and guided tour to explore the ancient medina city of Fes Week 2: Eastern Morocco: · Guided visit of the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis · 2 night break to roam the back streets of historic Rabat · Time to experience cosmopolitan Casablanca and to check out the huge Hassan II Mosque Week 3: The Moroccan South: · Overland across the High Atlas into the Valley of the Kasbahs · 2 nights to explore the vast Todra Gorge, to hike and to visit the local palmery · Overnight at and wander through the stunning Ait Benhaddou Kasbah · 3 nights in Marrakech to soak up the unbelievable atmosphere · 2 night stay in the Medina beach town and colourful port of Essaouira Week 4: Morocco & Western Sahara: · 4 day Western Saharan Desert crossing to Mauritania · R&R and civilisation time in Nouakchott

Week 1: Senegal: · Day to explore Dakar and the atmospheric Island of Gorée, the old slave centre of Senegal · 2 night stop at the mangrove swamps at Djiffer Week 2: Senegal & Mali: · 4 or 5 day overland trip on rough roads and wildcamps through Senegal to Bamako · 2 or 3 night break in Bamako, the music capital of West Africa · Trace the footsteps of explorers up the Niger River basin up to Timbuktu Week 3: Mali & Niger River: · 2 night stay and guided tour of Timbuktu · 3 day Niger River motorized canoe trip to Mopti via Ali Farka Toure's village of Niafounke · Visit to the Djenne Monday market & vast mud mosque Week 4: Mali & Burkina Faso: · 2 day trek through the Dogon tribal region on the Bandiagara Escarpment · Witness the masked dance and hear the rhythms of the Dogon music · Overland to and 2 nights stay at, Bobo Dioulasso and Ouagadougou

Excellent jungle scenery and some cracking beaches. Some wildlife but mainly geared to everyday African life and west African culture. Climate hot and humid.
