BEFORE YOU GO, YOU SHOULD KNOW
peace of mind
Financial Clients who are resident in the UK at the time of booking are financially protected by our bonds in case of financial failure. In the event of financial failure before you depart, these bonds will be used to reimburse you with the money you have paid Dragoman. If you have already embarked on your trip and financial failure occurs, the bonds will be used to either complete the trip or repatriate you to the UK. If you book a "land only" trip (ie. you book your flights elsewhere), your money is protected by our AITOT (Association of Independent Tour Operators Trust) bond, number 1077. If you book a trip and flight with Dragoman, your money is protected by our ATOL bond arranged with the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority), number 4157. NB. The above bonds cannot be used to reimburse the costs of other used or unused expenses such as travel insurance, visas, vaccinations, personal belongings, etc. Accident In many countries we visit, the local vehicle insurance includes only limited passenger accident liability or none at all. We have therefore arranged our own passenger liability protection through Lloyd's of London, one of the largest insurance groups in the world. This policy, which is similar to those used by European coach operators, has a total indemnity of £3,000,000 per incident. The high cost of this insurance, which is included in the trip prices, should be considered when comparing our prices with those of some other operators. Your personal travel insurance policy is separate and provides additional benefits to our accident liability policy. This insurance policy applies in respect of awards made anywhere in the world.
personal travel insurance
It is a condition of booking (see booking conditions) that you have comprehensive travel insurance. If you cannot prove you have travel insurance you may not be allowed on the trip. Dragoman recommend their own insurance, but you must ensure whatever policy you have has been designed for adventure travel and will cover you for personal accident, medical and repatriation costs, and loss, damage or theft of personal belongings. Most policies limit baggage cover for valuable items, such as cameras and jewellery, and impose security conditions. You must read your policy to make sure you understand these. Warning: Travel policies only cover overseas medical expenses and we therefore highly recommend that you take out an insurance policy to cover future consequential loss that you may incur (e.g. loss of earnings, disability, medical care, etc.) caused by illness, accident or injury. An Overland Policy Please also see Clause 11a) & 11b) in the booking conditions. This policy has been designed especially for overland travel. You do not have to purchase this policy, but you must have one with similar benefits. Please indicate on the booking form if you would like to have this policy issued. It can be for as long a period as you like if you intend spending extra time away from home before or after your Dragoman trip. adventure itineraries
We run "adventure journeys", off the beaten track, often in areas without western infrastructure. As many of these areas do not adhere to western safety standards and may have political or economic instability, there may be some risk. Do not book a trip unless you are prepared to accept these risks. Every overland trip is different. Although we intend to follow the routes in our brochure, we often change our itineraries for a variety of reasons, including changes from one brochure to another. Nightstops may vary, long diversions occur, and missed areas or activities are possible. However, extra things may be added. In booking a trip you must accept that the itinerary may vary from that described. Operational uncertainties make it impossible to run structured itineraries and it is not always possible to use crew who have previously travelled a particular route. Many trips in this brochure are sections of longer journeys and we cannot guarantee the arrival and departure dates. In Africa and South America, they may vary by a few days. In Asia it would be unusual for them to vary by more than a day or so. We regret we cannot be responsible for any additional expenses incurred due to the late arrival or departure of any trip, however caused.
health & vaccinations
Recommended vaccinations and other health protection measures vary according to country and recent bulletins issued by health authorities. They vary frequently. Costs vary according to the route and where you have your vaccinations. The chart opposite is intended for quick reference only and you should obtain the latest advice near the departure date. Compulsory Check the chart opposite for each country's immigration requirements. Unless you can show a certificate proving that you have the appropriate immunisations, you are quite likely to be refused entry to the country. Key to codes used in the chart opposite: yf Yellow Fever yfa Yellow Fever is only compulsory if arriving within 6 days from or via an infected area. The "yf" may also appear in the recommended column and we recommend you are immunised against Yellow Fever even if you are not arriving from an infected area. Often border officials will ask to see certificates even when medical authorities have not deemed vaccination compulsory. Recommended for All Countries You should also have a dental check-up and find out your blood group. On all our trips, we strongly recommend you be immunised against: o Tetanus o Hepatitis A o TB - Most people have been vaccinated against TB in childhood, but please remember that when you travel in the developing world you are at higher risk. o Poliomyelitis Recommended for Selected Countries Key to codes used in the chart opposite: yf Yellow Fever g Meningitis - because of the frequent epidemics of meningitis in sub-Saharan Africa and in the Indian sub continent, travellers to those areas should check the advisability of having a vaccination before they travel.
