Nairobi
Unlike most trips between Nairobi and Victoria Falls, this journey gives you something that others (and even our own Classic version) miss;TIME to get off the beaten track. If you've got a month to spare, you can experience in-depth the very best of East and Southern Africa. For the wildlife lovers we take you through the waving grasslands of the Masai Mara, the plains of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. But how about canoeing down the Zambezi Valley, surrounded by elephants and camping on river islands away from all the tourists. Rather than driving directly down the tarmac road from Malawi to Vic Falls, we meander off to South Luangwa National Park and the Lower Zambezi Wildlife Area. Add in the relaxation of the beaches of Lake Malawi, the white sands of the Indian Ocean and Zanzibar, the adrenaline rushes at Victoria Falls and you get the idea that this itinerary will need to take 28 days rather than the more usual 20 or 22 days offered by many others. This trip follows the old adage that travelling is the journey not the arriving. For those without the time we do have our 24 day alternative, see ZNV opposite.

We believe this to be perhaps the most comprehensive itinerary on offer along this route. We allow 48 days to see the very best of East and Southern Africa slowly. Take, for example, the wildlife areas and national parks that we visit; Nakuru and its wonderful flamingos and rhinos; Ziwa Rhino sanctuary; trekking for chimpanzees and the big game of the Nile in Murchison Falls; Queen Elizabeth National Park's herds of grazers, cats and waterway wildlife; the mountain gorillas of Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park; an on foot safari around Uganda's Lake Mburo; the prolific plains game of the Masai Mara, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater; the forest elephants and big cats of Zambia's South Luangwa National Park and the vast herds of elephant and hippos of the Lower Zambezi which we explore in kayaks. We allow time to get off the beaten track, to visit local communities such as Kariandusi school project near Gilgil in Kenya's Rift Valley and a guided hike through the villages of Mto wa Mbu. We take time off the truck to unwind on the beaches of Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam and Lake Malawi so that you have a chance to kick back and relax. If 48 days is too long for you or the dates don't suit, then try our 39 day alternative, code EUF.
