ROAD - Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam Cycle Indochina & Angkor Wat Grade: B RIDE PROFILE Av. daily distance: 51km (32 miles) No. of days cycling: 10 Vehicle support: 100% Terrain and route: road quality is good in Thailand and Vietnam but poorer in Cambodia. Conditions will be hot but there are few hills.Traffic levels in South East Asia are higher near the larger towns, so you should be comfortable riding occasionally in traffic. TRIP DETAILS Group: min. 7, max. 18, plus leader and local staff. Accommodation: 12 nights hotels, 1 night village house. Food: 13 breakfasts, 7 lunches and 1 dinner included. Angkor Wat An adventurous road cycle between Bangkok and Saigon, through traditional villages, national parks and magnificent Angkor Wat T his journey takes us across three countries with contrasting recent histories and subtly different cultures. From the bustling streets of Bangkok we make straight for the rolling limestone hills of Thailands largest National Park, Khao Yai. Moving into Cambodia we head through shimmering paddy fields to Angkor, the magnificent temple and city complex at the centre of the former Khmer empire and one of the worlds great historic sites. We reach Phnom Penh, where we encounter stark reminders of Cambodias more recent past. Arriving in Vietnam, we enter the mighty Mekong Delta, a crisscrossed patchwork of rice paddies and waterways, the so-called rice bowl of Vietnam. We complete our journey in the vibrant city of Saigon where the frenetic pace contrasts with some of the rural areas we have cycled through. ITINERARY Day 1 Depart London. 2 Arrive Bangkok; transfer to Khao Yai N.P.; short ride near the park and surrounding villages. 3 Day ride on jungle roads/trails near Khao Yai. 4 Cycle through the rural landscape to Sa Keaw. 5 Ride to Aranyaprathet close to the Cambodian border. 6 Into Cambodia and transfer/ride to Siem Reap. 7/8 Two full days to explore the temple complex of Angkor by bus and bike, including Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, the Bayon, Banteay Srei and other outlying temples. 9 Drive to Phnom Penh, stopping at Skuon, famous for its fried spiders. 10 Morning sightseeing including Royal Palace, Wat Phnom and Tuol Sleng museum; afternoon free to explore Central or Russian Markets, or the riverfront. 16 DAYS 11 Transfer to Takeo then cycle to Vietnam border and on to Chau Doc. 12 Drive/cycle through the Mekong Delta to Vinh Long; catch ferry to island homestay. 13 Transfer to Cai Be for floating market; scenic cycle along Mekong riverbank; transfer to Saigon. 14 Free day to explore Saigon or optional trip to Cu Chi Tunnels. 15 Free morning; depart afternoon. 16 Arrive London.
