CHOOSE WHEN & WHERE TO GO
While we consider many of the places we visit to be magical all year-round, certain months show them in their best light, especially those with a strong wildlife focus. So here's a guide to the best time to visit some of our favourite destinations.
JANUARY - MARCH
APRIL - JUNE
Jordan (pages 76-80) Prior to the heat of the high summer, now is a great time to explore the spectacular sites and scenery of the Kingdom of Jordan. Japan (pages 122-123) April sees the cherry blossom in full bloom; it's the perfect time to visit before the hot and humid summer months.

South East Asia (pages 144-153) The ideal time to visit South-East Asia is between November and March when most regions are cooler and drier. Ethiopia (pages 88-89) Witness the most important festival in the Ethiopian religious calendar, celebrating Epiphany at Timkat.
Sri Lanka (pages 142-143) Visit this wonderful Indian Ocean island prior to the wet and wild monsoon season.
Morocco (pages 62-68) Late spring (onwards) provides visitors with the ideal climate to explore the cities, markets, mountains and deserts of Morocco. Alaska (pages 156) Following their winter hibernation, bear sightings are now commonplace in the wilderness of Denali National Park.
Wildlife
Experience some of the world's most amazing wildlife encounters; by foot, vehicle or boat.
Tigers (page 139) The warm weather brings impressive tiger viewing opportunities as the long grasses wilt, and their prey gathers around the remaining water sources. Antarctica (pages 193-195) From late November to mid March is the only time when it's possible to visit arguably the most pristine and spectacular wilderness on earth. Wildebeest Migration (see page 98) Over two million wildebeest, on their annual migration, gather on the plains of the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.
Wolves (page 52) After the winter snows have melted, Eastern Europe provides plentiful wildlife viewing opportunities including wolves in Romania. Orang-utans (pages 152-153) The monsoon gales die down in late February, giving way to warm, dry weather it's the ideal time to visit Borneo. Inca Trail (pages 173-179) Although not the most popular time to visit, for many the clear skies make May one of the best times to trek to Machu Picchu. Turkey (pages 55-59) Turkey is at its greenest at this time of year, and is ideal for the thrill-seeker looking at taking an active break in the Mediterranean. Horse Riding in Andalucia (page 38) Before the extreme heat of the summer - and the school holidays now is the perfect time for an active break in southern Spain.

Patagonia (pages 180-183) The summer months in Patagonia give visitors plentiful daylight hours to explore the contrasting and beautiful landscapes. Kilimanjaro (pages 92 & 94-95) Kick start your New Year's resolutions by climbing the highest freestanding mountain in the world; a tough but rewarding challenge. Icehotel (page 22) Where better for a winter adventure than the stunning Icehotel, deep inside the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland?
