A long weekend in the wilds of Finland with an exciting two-day husky safari What better way to break up the monotony of the winter months than a long weekend dogsledding through the snowy forests of Finland? This short break includes an exciting two-day husky safari driving your own team of four, or more friendly huskies in a fabulous wilderness area close to the Russian border. Returning to civilisation, we have a free day in the lovely Hotel Kalevala, with the chance to go snowmobiling, crosscountry skiing or snowshoeing. Profile: no experience is required, but basic fitness and a sense of balance are important. Grade: moderate. Group: min. 4, max. 10 plus local guides and instructors. Min. age 14. Accommodation: 2 nights Husky Centre, 2 nights hotel. Food: all breakfasts, 2 lunches and 4 dinners included.
A true `Shackleton-style' Polar experience in Europe's most northerly outpost Spitzbergen is the king of Arctic destinations - nowhere else in Europe is so far north, so rugged and so spectacularly remote. On this very special trip we travel by snowmobile and dogsled to explore this fascinating wilderness. We spend 2 nights on a frozen-in ship for a unique 'Shackleton-style' experience - from February to June the MV Noorderlicht is locked into the pack-ice of Templefjord. Polar bear sightings are not uncommon near the boat, and at all times we need to keep our eyes peeled for these magnificent but potentially dangerous animals. Spitzbergen is also an excellent place to see the Northern Lights at their most spectacular. Profile: an active and remote trip for Polar enthusiasts. Expect cold temperatures and potentially challenging conditions. Grade: challenging. Group: min. 4, max. 12, plus leader. Min. age 18. Accommodation: 2 nights guesthouse, 2 nights frozen-in ship. Food: all breakfasts, 2 lunches and 2 dinners included.

Itinerary: Day 1 Fly to Kajaani via Helsinki, transfer to Husky Centre (2 hours). 2 Dogsled instruction and day trip driving your own dogteam. 3 Second day of dogsledding; transfer to Hotel Kalevala. 4 Free day at Hotel Kalevala to enjoy optional activities. 5 Transfer back to Kajaani Airport. Fly to London.
TRIP DETAILS
Itinerary: Day 1 Fly to Longyearbyen via Oslo and Tromso arriving after midnight; overnight in Trappers Lodge in Longyearbyen. 2 Half day dogsledding trip, followed by early evening snowmobile ride to Templefjord; overnight on the MV Noorderlicht. 3 Full day snowmobile expedition from the ship, looking for Polar Bears and exploring the magnificent scenery. Possible routes include a visit to Von Post Glacier or the remote east coast. Second night on the ship. 4 Return to Longyearbyen by snowmobile, perhaps following the dramatic highland route; overnight in the Trappers Lodge. 5 Free morning. Fly from Longyearbyen to Heathrow via Oslo.
