Wonderfully varied walks in the beautiful Picos de Europa As Spain's third highest mountain range after the Pyrenees and Sierra Nevada, the Picos de Europa is a spectacular region of limestone peaks, ridges and deep valleys. A varied landscape of dramatic rocky terrain and lush lower valleys with meadows covered with beautiful wild flowers in spring, this area is also known as 'Green Spain'. The terrain, tranquillity and inaccessibility make the Picos a walker's favourite. Bears, wolves and boars all still survive here, chamois are often spotted, and a total hunting ban helps us approach within camera range. We walk from our family-run hotel into the heart of this beautiful range, Europe's largest National Park, returning each night for one of the many home-cooked specialities on offer. The scenery, walking, hotel, food, climate and wildlife make this a great week's walking. Profile: 5 days centre-based walking. Reasonable fitness required. Grade: moderate (challenging on certain weeks). Group: min. 6, max. 16, plus leader. Min. age 16. Accommodation: 7 nights at family-run Hotel Torrecerredo. Food: all meals included, including some wine with evening meals.
Select from a range of activities available from our hotel with stunning views of the Picos de Europa The Picos de Europa offers some of the finest, most dramatic mountain scenery in Spain. With lush valleys, deep rocky gorges, huge cave systems and cliffs that have long been a mecca for climbers, this area provides the perfect location for an activity holiday. On this flexible week you can choose from a daily menu and select your preferred activities. Profile: travel by private minibus. All activities are optional. No experience is needed. Grade: ungraded. Depends on activities chosen. Group: no leader, local staff arrange activities. Each activity has its own minimum age requirement (see Trip Notes). Accommodation: 7 nights hotel. Food: all breakfasts included (some activities may include a picnic lunch).
BOOKING YOUR ACTIVITIES
Simply specify upon booking the number of days on which you would like activities (see Dates & Prices box). Upon arrival in Arenas de Cabrales, you will be asked to specify which activities you would like to take part in. Itinerary: Day 1 Start Arenas de Cabrales. 2 Caving or horse-riding. 3 Rock-climbing. 4 Free day for a simple walk through the famous Cares Gorge (no cost and not included in activity options). 5 Canyoning (must be able to swim). 6 Self-guided biking. 7 Canoeing (must be able to swim) or quad-biking (valid driving licence required). 8 End Arenas.

TRIP DETAILS
Itinerary: Day 1 Fly to Bilbao; transfer to Arenas in the Picos de Europa. 2/7 Five guided day walks in the heart of the Picos, with one free day. Some of the walks will be from the front door of the hotel as we explore areas such as the Cares Gorge, Naranjo de Bulnes, and Pico San Carlos (2214m). 8 To Bilbao; fly to London.
