Itinerary: Day 1 Fly to Alicante; transfer to Quatretondeta. 2 Gentle introductory walk through Moorish villages offering superb views from Gallinera escarpment to the surrounding region and the Mediterranean. 3 Visit the spectacularly located castle of Jativa, built by the Romans and dating back to 300BC. 4 Free day to relax around Quatretondeta, explore Moorish and archaeological museums of Alcoy, or possible winery visit (all optional). 5 A complete day to enjoy the wonderful Cathedral, Basilica and Central Market of Valencia - the City of Arts and Science. 6 Morning visit to wonderful Cocentaina market followed by wine-tasting in the award winning Vins de Comtat; after lunch we learn the essential elements of local life including olive-oil processing and wine making. 7 Walk through the impressive Griffon vulture colony with wonderful views throughout the day. 8 Transfer to Alicante; fly to London. Profile: travel by private minibus, local train and on foot. Grade: leisurely. Group: min. 2, max. 16, plus leader. Min. age 16. Accommodation: 7 nights hotel. Relaxed walking and spectacular scenery from our comfortable base in Quatretondeta, including a day in fascinating Valencia Valencia, situated in the centre of the Spanish Mediterranean coastline, has paved the way for many other European cities with its groundbreaking advances in Science and Art. We spend the week exploring this autonomous kingdom with its fascinating Roman and Muslim influences. Away from this cultural gem, we discover the stunning landscape, culture and history of Les Valls de la Marina, an undiscovered part of Spain perfectly hidden behind the busy coastline. These valleys boast archaeological findings dating back to the Bronze Age, substantial agricultural improvements thanks to the Moorish occupation and an incredible variety of flora and fauna, including an impressive Griffon vulture colony. The week is spent in the quaint village of Quatretondeta, where our comfortable hotel serves sumptious Michelin recommended cuisine every evening - a real gastronomic treat.
